Description
Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project began on a shoestring budget in 2008. We exist to allow 20 year professional brewer Dann Paquette to make an honest living while giving his imagination free reign. We brew our beers in other people's breweries because we can't afford our own. We enjoy the up-at-dawn lifestyle and the freedom to brew beers of our own imagining. We brew all our beers ourselves: Dann brews and formulates, Martha mills in. We dream up our beers together, inspired by Europe, by history, and by BEER and all it can be. We are based in Somerville, but brew mostly in Westport, MA, hence the early mornings. Cheers!

Bottle. Pours redish brown with a pillowy head. Nice hoppy beer, fruity for UK varieties, nice caramell malt base.

Pours hazy amber into a 20oz. Magnifico! stein. White head with little retention quickly recedes to coat surface leaving no lacing. Pepper and hop aromas. Crisp with Euro hop bitterness upfront, turning slightly tart in the lasting ground grapefruit pith finish. I had me another.

Good saison. Aroma is peppercorn fruitiness and spice, subdued grain, a touch of funk and some citric, herbal hoppiness. Taste has some breadier malt, some yeastiness that gets things fairly dry and moderately dry finish with a touch of hops. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a white head. Well carbonated. Goes down easily.

Pours a murky amber brown with a nice beige head. Nutty malt with citrus hops. There’s a cola tang to the beer, which doesn’t really work for me. I’m also finding some caramel, molasses and a touch of something plasticky. There’s also some banana and spice. The yeast notes seem kinda all over the place. Feel is a bit thin. Taste is sweet with a mildly hop bitter finish. It has a bit of a malted milk ball taste, not quite DME but a bit raw. Decent beer but it lacks the richness that I was hoping for.

Whole Foods Market, DC 22oz ($7): Pours an extremely cloudy yellow color with a small white head. Aroma is of the funk, a whole lot of spice, and some hops. Taste is very spicy and peppery. I would say that it is easily more spicy and peppery than your average saison. The hops provide a good bitterness that balances well with the more traditional saison elements. The finish is also very dry. This is kind of a saison taken to an extreme, but it is certainly quite good.
