From the eurospar, Frastanz, august 2024, best before 05/25, sharing this bottle with my wife yesterday, at Epalinges, at night, tired and happy with this classical märzen, smooth and malty, mineral, hint of sweetness and toffee, classical bitterness.

330mL bottle, pours a dirty dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma is full on oxidation: tons of cardboard, some dark fruits, light toffee. Flavour has a surprising lack of character, with bready malt, oxidation, a hint of toffee, but really, there’s not much depth or character here, especially for an 11% eisbock. Inoffensive but frustratingly underwhelming.

330mL bottle. Pours clear deep gold with a whiteish head. Lots of cardboard and stale bread crusts on the nose. Flavour has fermented wheat, cardboard, soggy old bread crusts. Boozy, but lacking any distinct character. Not very good.

Clowdy orange color.
Piny snd orange aroma.
Distinct bitterness.
Full bodied with medium lasting sweetness.

Bottled. Clear amber, mid sized head. Caramelly nose with some citrus. Mid sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Caramel and citrus. Long bitter finish.

Optisch lichtundurchdringlich schwarz. Die mittelbraune, feinporige Schaumkrone hinterlässt einen flaumigen und gut haltbaren Eindruck. Die Duftaromatik wirkt kräftig röstmalzaromatisch mit Noten von Mokka, dunkler Schokolade, Kakao und bringt sogar einen zart rauchigen Anklang mit. Der Antrunk kommt bereits kräftig und breit röstig malzig, zart süßlich und kräftig röstig herb mit Noten von Mokka und dunkler Schokolade. Wunderbares Mundgefühl mit fülligem Körper, sehr feiner Rezenz, samtiger bis leicht cremiger Textur und angenehmer Trockenheit. Geschmack und Aroma zeigen sich zart süß und leicht röstig bis hopfig herb mit Noten von Kaffee, dunkler Schokolade und Kakao. Die zarte Rauchigkeit bleibt dabei sehr subtil und gleitet nichts ins Kokelige ab. Für seine 9,2 % Alkohol bleibt dieses Imperial Stout sehr sanft, weich und regelrecht mild bei toller Drinkability. Erst im Nachtrunk kommt leichte wärme auf, wird dabei aber nie zu alkoholisch und glänzt mit langlebigen Röstmalznoten von Mokka und dunkler Schokolade bzw. Kakao.
Mein Fazit: Nicht ohne Grund immer wieder Spitzenplatzierungen und Goldprämierungen bei ABC, Falstaff oder European Beer Star in der Kategorie Porter/Stout. Das ist definitiv Championsleague!

Klar bernsteinfarben mit weißer Schaumkrone. Malziger Geruch nach Karamell und Toffee. Geschmacklich malzig, fruchtig nach Karamell, Toffee und Trockenfrüchten. Mittlere Süße mit mittlerer Bitterkeit, mittlerer bis voller Körper mit spürbarer Kohlensäure.
