Cask gravity at Rare Breeds BF 08. Deep russet/orange/dark brown. Dryish aroma with some fruit. Decent strong dark beer. Not overly roasty, fruity or syrupy. Decent hop on end. Some really good malts. Balanced beer, bit of spice. Good and surprising.

500 ml. bottle. Slightly sour, nutty, somewhat roasted malt aroma. Hazy red amber color with a decent beige head. Medium body with very creamy carbonation. This is something like an old ale. Think Gale’s Prize Old Ale. It’s malty, slightly sour, heading for dark fruit characteristics. Mmmm. Finish is heading towards dry, and there seems to be floral hop bitter. Bitter builds up with time. Quite the treat. Note: This is bottle conditioned, so it’s not likely to go off. It will age, and not taste like young/green ales. Suggests Fullers 1845 in a much less malty way.

[500ml bottle - gift from Mum] Shared with Jim. Thick, creamy head which remained until the end. Smoother than the lively fizziness on pouring suggested. Very unusual flavour for an Englaish ale - sweet and very malty, with a lot of fruit. Oddly reminiscent of Chimay Red. Kept thinking "weird" rather than "nice", but imagine that if you drank more than a single bottle you would get used to it, and might like it more than 6/10 suggests. However, with something this sweet and malty you may struggle to drink more than a couple of bottles. Odd, but interesting.

BCA, Westholme, Londis, Goring on Thames, Oxon, 03-05-08 Pours orangey amber with large off- white fluffy head and med’ carbonation, some alcohol and malt on the nose. Taste is malty and fruity with a bitterness at the back of the mouth. The bitterness becomes more pronounced as you get further down this beer, there is also some citrus, I seem to like this better than some of the other raters although I think it could have been a lot better.
