Description
Alaska has a rich history of brewing. From the explorers of the 1700s through the Gold Rush, many a thirsty Alaskan has been able to enjoy locally made beers.

In 1986, 28-year-olds Marcy and Geoff Larson reignited that tradition when they opened the Alaskan Brewing Company, the 67th independent brewery in the country and the first brewery in Juneau since Prohibition. Alaskan beers reflect many of the same characteristics of beers that were brewed here during the gold rush era. From the historically based Alaskan Amber recipe to alder-smoked malts and Sitka spruce tips, Alaskan beers reflect Juneau’s local brewing history and innovation.

So I pick up a can that is a couple of months past best-by date. Oh well, I have done much, much worse on that. Pint can, opened and into my big snifter. A pale, medium yellow liquid, and because of a heavy pour, lots and lots of pure white foam. I think I detect some lacing early on. Interesting nose, tilting more towards the malt than the hops. A nice taste, generally inoffensive said nicely. A decent hoppiness, expected more of it, some tropical, pineapple and grass. I hoped for it to be bigger.

12 oz. Aroma has notes of cantaloupe, pineapple, pine, guava, citrus peel, passionfruit, strawberry. Pours hazy pale golden with a decent off white head. Taste is lightly bittersweet with juicy fruity flavors, finishing lightly dry. Crisp, clean, crushable.

Best by January 11th 2021.

Pours a straw gold, not quite clear, lots of billowy foam.

Smell is piney, some citrus, a wee bit of dankness.

Taste is grapefruit, some grass and pine, dank, actually a strange bitterness flavour.

Good enough mouthfeel.

Bought as a single and that works for me. Not saying it's bad...

Pour is a cloudy gold with a large white head. Made with wheat looks like a wheat beer. Aroma is some passion fruit hop and chewy wheat malt. Flavor is more of a bitter grapefruit with more of a wheat malt backbone. Finish leaves a little bit of that bitterness on the tongue. Decent enough with a hop you don't see too often.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours copper tinged gold with a large creamy white head. Aroma of citrus/pine with a touch of white berry or melon. Med body. Malt is mildly roasty, and it has an aspect of the pale malt that used to be in those decent lagers of yesteryear- like the original Olympia (not the watered down stuff of today), and there's citrus/pine and something suggesting a green melon. Dry. Bitter. Despite being a touch juicy. It's a very good beer.

Slightly hazy pale amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily to a film. Strings of lace. Grassy hop, citrus and malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of herbal hop, grapefruit, melon and bready malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a citrusy hop aftertaste. Above average overall.
