Description
In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery with zeal and never stop brewing even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels was such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 on the 7 generations have been Town Mayors.

In the 1930’s Antoine Bosteels, 5th generation, carried on the brewing dynasty and played an important role expanding the sales of the Bosteels Pils into other regions such as Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. His son Ivo Bosteels honored the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by bringing it back to the market in 1980; this is the beginning of the strong beers for the Brewery Bosteels. In the year 1990, Ivo’s son, Antoine Bosteels, the 7th generation, understood the potential of the strong beers and especially the trend for the blond ones. Driven by passion of the art of brewing and guided by his creativity, Antoine is at the roots of the Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres.

It was announced in 2016 that the brewery would be taken over by beer giant AB InBev, however Antoine Bosteels will remain chairman of the Board of Directors and will also remain operationally involved to ensure business continuity. In addition, the brewing activities will remain based in Buggenhout.

Pours clear golden with tiny head. Perfurmed aroma with pinesol. Perfurmy flavor and the alcohol kicks in through the end.

75 cL bottle, Kerstbierfestival 2007 in Essen/Belgium. Pours golden and clear yellow with a lacing white head. Spiced towards herbal aroma, dry, oregano and thyme. Prickling carbonation. Flavour is spiced and slight soapy but it tastes lovely. Reminds me of spiced Italian food. Mellow malt flavour and spices lingering into the far finish. This is unsual and yet fantastic - I wouldn’t be able to drink a whole bottle though.

Lecker! Test vom 25.12.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 13,13,12,12,13,12 - 12,30

08/12 Bottle from 2006 vintage, shared with Doggythedog at Scout Irish Pub in Samobor. Poured clear pale golden body with big, but short living white head. Nice, cute sourish aroma of apples, bit of orange and winey, too, but also sweet sugary and syrupy which is dominating in the flavor. Didn’t felt that anesthetic touch as my friend did, it was nice and pleasant to me, but complex for sure, I may be a redneck but I miss that yeast a lot. Alcohol is so well hidden I couldn’t believe it. Lot of carbonation. Finish is nice long and sweet. I didn’t see any of the champagne character, it is really beer and nothing else. But even then, it is different than any other Belgian Strong Ale I’ve tried, nice experience, nothing bad for sure, but definitely not worth the high price.

Bottle (obviously), vintage 2006, shared with heavy at the Scout Pub in Samobor Those tiny DeuS glasses are cute but definitely don’t go well with the fact that this foams badly. Poured a golden body, effervescent, with a huge white head that went away quite fast. The aroma was quite interesting and lovely... some agrume, grapes good white wine (can’t elaborate due to my lack of knowledge about wine)... And then I tasted the beer and the beer suddenly stopped being worth the price. Quite sweet malty taste... but not in the best way possible. The sweetness felt a bit medicinal near the end... some nice grape notes start to emerge again, balancing that and making the taste interesting and somewhat unique... Some alcohol can be felt, but it’s covered up really well for this strength. The malty sweetness lingers in the aftertaste. Though many would disagree, I really didn’t think it was all that complex- It’s pleasant, sure, unique (compared to the other beers I’ve had), yeah, but just not that tasty. This was pretty much the last Belgian beer left for me to try in Croatia... ah, well, guess I’d better start hoping that some new ones will be introduced soon.

0.33 l bottle. Amber brownish bodied, murky with lot of yeasts floating around, with medium creamy ocher head. Unusual, sourish aroma with caramel malts, and yeast, too. Flavor is a different thing, quite bitter, yeasty and rather simple, although may seem spicy. Medium bodied. Finish is sweetish, just a hint of that bitterness is felt. Very strange, unusual beer, of course, not in the bad way.

Bottle. Amber coloured with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of yeast, caramel and red fruit. Flavour had plenty of molasses, spice and a sweet finish. Ok.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Deep gold colour with a decent, rocky white head and moderate carbonation. Aromas of yeast, coriander, mace, tropical fruit and grain. Flavour had plenty of sweet malt with more spice, honey and some herbs. The finish was pretty dry. very good.
