In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery with zeal and never stop brewing even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels was such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 on the 7 generations have been Town Mayors.

In the 1930’s Antoine Bosteels, 5th generation, carried on the brewing dynasty and played an important role expanding the sales of the Bosteels Pils into other regions such as Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. His son Ivo Bosteels honored the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by bringing it back to the market in 1980; this is the beginning of the strong beers for the Brewery Bosteels. In the year 1990, Ivo’s son, Antoine Bosteels, the 7th generation, understood the potential of the strong beers and especially the trend for the blond ones. Driven by passion of the art of brewing and guided by his creativity, Antoine is at the roots of the Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres.

It was announced in 2016 that the brewery would be taken over by beer giant AB InBev, however Antoine Bosteels will remain chairman of the Board of Directors and will also remain operationally involved to ensure business continuity. In addition, the brewing activities will remain based in Buggenhout.

Wow. I had this at Muffuletta on Como Ave. here in Minneapolis. Aromas of pear, wheat, and citrus. Appearance of a cloudy hefeweizen with no head. Exceptionally complex and smooth. Flavors of pear, apple, honey, coriander, citrus, wheat, and malt. This beer is highly complex with many aromas and flavors.this is outstanding and it is hard to find anything better.

Somewhat of a unique belgian experience - if I were given this beer and didn't know what it was, I would guess it was an American-made belgian - I don't know what it is about it, but it just seems like one, not that that's a bad thing - burnt copper in color, not head but high carbonation - aroma of candy, vitamins and yeast, but it works - the flavor is strikingly like DFH Raison D'Etre - in fact, I might mistake it for that beer - same sweetness, same spice, some mouthfeel - strange - this one has more of a candy-ish character to it though - this is some enjoyable stuff, but I can get the Raison a lot cheeper, so I think I'll stick with that.

Dark copper brown. Diminishing white head, lace. Aroma is malty, alcoholic, even parfumic. Taste is apples, raisins and mango. Short fruity finish. (7/3/7/3/14 3.4)

Hazy nut brown, small white head. Yeasty, very malty nose. Fruity, lots of plums, slightly metallic. (7/3/6/3/13 3.2)

An old favorite that has fallen some in my esteem. I come back to this beer now and then as a change of pace but something has kept it from being a regular for me. +++ Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy light caramel color with a small foamy light tan head that quickly faded and left no lacing. The aroma was cola, peach, pear and hints of caramel and bread. The flavor was toffee, peach, pear, cola and a hint of sourdough bread. Medium length finish of toffee, fruit and cola. Medium body. Solid but not outstanding.

Orange - light amber color. Very nice aroma: hops and oranges. Malty, with a light sourness and tartness; fruity as well. Correct final. Quite original.

Bright golden. Full fluffy head, rocky. Full lemony aroma. Tart and refreshing. Coriander flavors, plus candy sweet and unlike most other tripels in its focused and full sweetness. Near cloying, but earthy and barnyardy provide some contrast to balance. Berries come through later? The more I drink, the more I get from this and the better I like it.

What's a Witbier doing in this bottle? Coriander and citrus (perhaps a hint of orange or lemon) dominate the aroma. Hazy orange body topped by a thin off-white head. Rich, powerful flavor: orange, coriander, a touch of sweet caramel, and alcohol notes. I understand the hype.

Light yellow-amber. Very little head. Very aromatic nose: ginger, vanilla, orange, marzipan. Very malty at first but with upcoming bitterness, und(r)efined. Very full-bodied, gives an impression of much higher density, even alcohol apparent. Deceiving - seems to be more and not delivering. I like the nose, though. Rerated : Very hoppy taste, surprisingly American in character - possibly hopoil, also more velvety mouthfeel.

Clear light yellow-gold. Lively pearling to thick, fluffy white irregular head. Nose of grain, wheat, a little smoked smell. After a while, a sharp roasted malt smell comes up, spicy. Sweet, malty taste, but with a sharp, nearly adstringent mouthfeel, like partly roasted malt - strange for such a pale beer. The oats? Spicy and fruiy, but foremost malty. As said, sharp mouthfeel, medium-bodied. It could be refreshing but for that roasted flavour. A beer with a very high emphasis on grain and malt. Not uninteresting, but not very exciting. A bit of a hype, and with the role of the spectacular glass, that sounds familiar for this brewery.

Very little head when pourred into glass, almost no bubble coming from the bottom. the alcohol is way too evident and takes too much place leaving little for the spice taste to come throught. A little bit disapointed, I was hoping more from a belgian ale...
