Black with a ton of red translucency on this one. 3 finger coffee colored dense head. Smells like an ash tray with coffee. A decent density on the mouthfeel here. Thee’s a good amount of cocoa, chocolate, graham cracker, some sweet blackberry taste in here with a slight amount of chalk.

Sampled @ Ratebeer Belgian Winter Gathering 2016. Unclear dark orange color, small to average sized white to off-white head. Smell and taste malts, lightly sweet, some caramel hints and lightly toffee. Decent body and carbonation. Decent.

Crowler thanks to Dan. Pours a dark brown color with a medium white head. A big..no, huge whiskey nose, toffee and brown sugar. Rich toast, vanilla, some big nutty notes, sharp sweet and hot whiskey. It mellows though when you drink a quart of it and the softer elements rise to the fore. Quite nice. This is one that needs time to warm and grow on you due to the big barrel flavors. Solid. Yinz recycle this can. Yup.

Tap. Mild fruity aroma. Looks a little cloudy and pale. First taste is WEW! Who put the whisky in this stuff? Yes, tastes like it was stored in a soaked whisky barrel. I’d swear this tastes like many barrel aged bullshit beers I’ve had. Now that I’m in the session, it smells a little like whisky too. I guess I need to eat some paw paw fruits to get this one.

So.I really liked fat gary nut brown and I thought I may like this but forget about it. It a black strong ale that gives you a kick in the palate, no resemblance to fat gary at all. Did gary get fatter over the last 6 years? Just wondering. Alky laced volatile aroma. Whisked backbone on the buds. In the middle the barrel thang simply overrides the whole beer experience. Difficult to swallow and just a little too much for my girlie taste buds. One question: If we love whisky so much, why don’t you just drink whisky and quit trying to make beer taste like whisky. JMHO

I was really disappointed as this sounded right up my alley. +++ Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a black color with a small foamy tan head that left decent lacing. The aroma was somewhat faint with a harsh bite and notes of anise and coconut. The flavor was bitter and had a harsh bite of inferior whiskey followed by anise and coconut. Medium length finish. Somewhat watery in body. Disappointing.

750ml from the brewery. Off garbage tones in the aroma. Deep brown unfiltered body. Brown sugar Belgian Brown Ale. Leathery brown sugar. Not so good. The aroma kills it.

Bottle thanks to Dan. Pours a clear golden color with a medium white head. A big fruity oak sawdust nose. The flavor is sweet citrus, lemongrass, oak, vanilla. Smooth. Nice. Easygoing.
