Description
The brewery is the beating heart of the Craywinckelhof. It all started in 1893, when Germaan Van Obbergen, like many farmers at the time, started a small farm brewery. The brewery, however, was not granted a long life, during the First World War the German occupiers seized all the brewing material. In 2010, Louis Schrevens, now the 5th generation, decided to restore the brewery to its former glory.

28 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke, 77ships & tderoeck! Clear pale golden, quickly thinning, frothy, white head. Aroma of white sugar & bread, apple peel, banana, pepper, grass, some vanilla. Taste is medium sugary sweet, hinting at ripe yellow fruits & white bread, spicy bitter core of pepper, grass, wood, early alcohol & sourish lime underneath. Dryish, slightly grassy hoppy finish, more yellow fruits, white sugar & bread, and apparent, a bit wry white rum-like alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Too unrefined, too much alcohol.

28 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke, 77ships & tderoeck! Clear pale golden, lasting, thick, foamy, white head. Aroma of banana, wheat, ‘pullman loaf’, rubber, withered grass, hashish. Taste is light to medium sugary sweet, ripe banana, apple sauce, bready maltiness but in a white, industrial manner; spicy bitter notes of pepper, grass, disturbed by weird rubber & early warming alcohol, fully apparent in the dryish, slightly grassy hoppy finish, lingering white bread & obnoxious white rum-like alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Completely went off track, it seems.

Could've been first, damn backlog! :p
Clear pale yellow beer, small creamy white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very malty, raw grains, cow fodder, banana, bit spicy, coriander, more banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet, sugary start, some banana, little bitter, almonds. Aftertaste: bit oxidized, sugary, some alcohol, spicy, coriander notes and banana. Another disappointing B.A. version of this beer...

Damn backlog, could've been first. :p
Clear blond beer, small creamy white head, stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: banana, bit fruity, yeasty, sweet impression. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: alcohol, bit sweet, banana, more banana, soft acidity, yeast, bit nutty, little bitter. Aftertaste: yeast, some banana again, some tannins, bitter finish with more banana peel. Not very impressed by this one. If you start with the wrong base beer, then the barrel ageing misses it's point…

Clear pale blond beer, creamy white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very yeasty, dry, bit spicy, malty touch. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, ripe banana, bit sugary, alcohol, whisky, more banana. Aftertaste: soft bitterness, very yeasty, some whisky, bit spicy, not bad, not great either. Not sure if the ageing on whisky barrels added a lot of character. Feels like the yeast is still very dominant in this beer.

Sampled at zythos 2018. Thnx for sharing, everyone! Pours black, small soapy head. Smell is peaty. Thin, bit roasty. Taste is sharp. Peated, roasty. Bit thin. Mild phenolic.
rerate ( no score change ) Pours dark, unclear brown to black. Small, slightly tanned head.Scent is mildly peaty. Sharp, almost metallic (trough the peat?). Taste is sharp, roasty - yet balanced. Mild peatyness. Very 'dirty' yet not repelling. Decent, concidering I'm not a peat fan.
