Description
Along the road to Nismes, a stone's throw from Mariembourg, a peculiar building with a copy of a windmill is visible. It was the showcase of a disco that was turned into a brewery by Frédéric Adant in 1998.
At the Brasserie des Fagnes, we brew around 50 different beers per year. Our brews and beers offered for tasting may change according to the seasons. More fruity in spring, light and refreshing in summer, rather amber in autumn with more body and taste, finally more alcoholic in winter with a tendency towards strong browns ... Yes, there is something for everyone's taste at the Brasserie des Fagnes! Some of its beers are only available at the Brasserie des Fagnes. After brewing, fermentation and aging in the tank, they are transferred to storage tanks which are directly connected to the flow pumps in the tasting room.

33 cl. bottle sampled thx! to Kraddel.BBF 01/03/2014. Pours a ruby dark brown with some tanned bubbles. Nose is liquorish, sweet herbs, caramel, light bread, something metallic-like. Taste is bitter herbs mixed with coca-cola, faint but not bothersome iron, bark, sweet dark bread, touch caramel & cheap chocolate candy. It is a bit like some odd coca-cola with light spices. Med. to lighter body. Not stellar but I expected much worse, this is an okay & mildly enjoyable drink.

Many thanks to Finn for sharing a 250ml bottle. Pours a frothy white head that stayed well. Not much lacing. Clear golden body. Dry fruity aroma with honey sweetness. Taste of dried fruits, yeast, spices and caramel malts, supported by warming alcohol on the swallow. Mouthfilling (at Finns place in Tromsø 03.12.2013).

Cork and caged 75cl bottle, labelled as ’Noel’, BBD Oct 14, poured at home on 1st Dec 13. Dark brown with ruby hints, the head large, lasting and beige in colour. Sweet fruity notes in the malty molasses aroma, hints of spices also. The taste was also malty, those sweet molasses giving toffee and caramel flavours along with spiced hedgerow fruits. The 8.5% ABV is nicely tucked away behind the depth of flavours making this easy to sip and enjoy. Having been to a four Christmas Beer Festivals at Essen I like to think I’ve tried a few Belgian Xmas brews: my take on this is a Mr Average in all aspects.
