Description
Note to Brewver members:-

The majority of beers have historically been released as 'Canterbury - XYZ' so should appear in the beer listings without the brewery name.

There is also a range of beers, usually only available at the brewpub itself and smaller batch, released as 'Foundry - XYZ'. These beers therefore appear with the Foundry name first in the beer listings.

Canterbury Brewers is a traditional microbrewery and the only one based within the city walls of Canterbury. We produce a range of modern and fresh cask-conditioned ales using only the finest quality floor-malted barley, hops and yeast available. With our distinctive recipes and our beautiful new brewery situated on Whitehorse Lane, we aim to add something different to the ever-growing and vibrant micro-brew scene in Kent. The Foundry Brewery, which opened in June 2011, is in sight of Canterbury Cathedral and just off the high street, and includes a restaurant, bar and an eight-barrel brewery. Brewery tours and tastings run regularly, and our restaurant can be booked for special events and functions - just get in touch!

Cask. Pours a very dark ruby, tight white bubbles in the head, which disappears. Aroma- toffee, hops, fruits- cherry and raisin. Taste is lots of toffee sweetness, toffee apple, port hints, plum and raisin, almost like mulled wine. Thick, a bit syrupy in the mouth. Alcohol well hidden. Nice.

Bottle, massive thanks to Ian. It pours dark brown with a minimal tan head. The nose is sweet, roasty, toffee, vinous, berry, yoghurt, candy and milk chocolate. The taste is crisp, roasty, toast, tart berry, treacle, vanilla, mild astringency, decent bitterness and milk chocolate with a warming finish. Medium+ body and fine prickly carbonation. Rather decent.

Keg at Tap East - Stratford, London. Pours clear, burnished gold with a fine, foamy white head. Bready malts on the nose with accents of gummy fruit candies. Light-medium sweet flavor with more of this gummy fruit, slightly sugary and lightly toasted pale malts, some leafy and grassy bitterness. Light bodied with average, crisp carbonation. Oddly saccharin. Finishes with yet more chewy, fruity candies, basic bread, slightly off-kilter bitterness. Disjointed and not especially drinkable.

Cask handpull at The Foundry Canterbury. Fruity spicy hoppy Belgian ale peppery hop throughout with some black pepper hotness on the finish. Some Belgian esters on the aroma. Ok. Not great condition. Will work better on keg.
