Bottle - Vintage 2013 - Fresh this is very hoppy and bitter, which is normal for a west coast Barley Wine. I think fresh though it is a bit rough and age would do it well. Still pretty decent though, just not as good as I think it should be.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and liquorice. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, caramel, and dark chocolate, leading to a dry finish.

Poured from 650mL bottle (cap printed "bottled Nov 13, 2013"). Dark black, creamy look, full tan head. Aroma is predominantly roast malt and coffee. Taste is the same. Medium body, milky texture, quick finish. Didn’t get any chocolate like some others got, perhaps the fact a significant number of other raters did get chocolate and a significant number of others did not suggests a fair bit of inconsistency between batches.

Poured from 650mL bottle (2013 release - cap reads bottled Dec 13, 2013). Clear orangey yellow with dissipating white head. Quite hoppy aroma with only a touch of sweet malt. Same taste with hint of alcohol. Medium-Light body.Based on the reviews from past years’ releases, I’m a little disappointed. Tastes more like a weak DIPA (in flavour, not alcohol) than a barley wine.

Bottle - Vintage 2011 - Sweet vinous and oaky notes with a bit of cherry. Clear copper with a rich white head. Big front end sour notes, vinegar, barrel notes and little else as far as flavor. This has aged very well.
