West Hewish, Weston-super-Mare, UK - BS24 6RR, England
Description
Brewing started behind the Royal Clarence Hotel, and in those days trading as the Royal Clarence Hotel Brewery, in Burnhan-on-Sea in August 1982. A 5 barrel brew plant was used primarily to supply the hotel only. The brewery was taken over in May 1984 and the beers became more available in the free trade. Due to problems with the water supply, the brewery was using that much that hotel guests could not wash, the brewery moved in January 1993 to an old cider mill in West Hewish, Weston-super-Mare. Capacity was tripled during the move and in 2000 work started on upgrading the plant to a 30 barrel brew length. The brewery closed in early 2017 but relaunched shortly afterwards as Pitchfolk Brewery.

Bottled. Cloudy orange, mediumsized head, lacing. Very strong hoppy aroma with "earthy" hints. Very hoppy bitter taste, but also "earthy" (mouldy) taste. Wellchosen name for the taste. Not much aftertaste. --- Beer merged from original tick of RCH Pitchfork on 13 Mar 2005 at 02:16 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 5 | Flavor - 5 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 5. Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Dark amber. Some grass and raisin. Bold mouthfeel. There’s some berries before a harsh, bitter finish takes over. Never been the greatest fan of RCH, and I found this beer to be about as balanced as a hippo in a glassware store.

Bottle Pours a dark brown with a massive thick light tan head that when it finally subsides leaves thick sticky lacing down the sides. Aromas are mostly chocolate, coffee, a little smoke and a bit of grape jelly. Flavor is very mild and soft. Carbonation is fine but quite strong and makes it taste like foam. Gets in the way a bit. Feel otherwise is a bit thin but pleasant. Finish is where the smokeyness comes through for me. A bit plain, but pretty good and at 4.5%, 500ml will do just fine.

Light honey brown with steady white head (lots of bubbles). Mild floral hoppy nose. Starts hoppied and crisp, but mouthfeel turns to quite sweet. Interesting Brit but not so good.

Medium excellent creamy white head. Hazy toffee&orange brown. Light aroma: a hint of smoke and sweetness plus kind of weird dankness. Typical ale/bitter flavor.Smooth mouthfeel, hops are very present. Long bitter finish. Very good palate. (5/3/7/5/15 3.5)
Re-rate, bottle-conditioned, 10.6.04 (BB 01/2005)
Hazy orange with big off-white head, lace. Grassy hop and yeast aroma. Bitter, hop, malt and citrus flavors. Round, excellent crisp palate. Long bitter and sour aftertaste. This is more like Belgian ale (malt character)! (6/3/7/5/15 3.6)
2nd re-rate, bottle conditioned, 4.8.04 (BB 01/2005)
Good rocky off-white head. Aroma is yeasty, hoppy, malty and fruity. Bitter hoppy and citrus flavors. Excellent brew, I like this more everytime. (7/4/8/4/16 3.9)

Nice hoppy aroma, grassy. Copper color, reasonable malts, strong bitterness, aromatic, long. Good.
Bottle, 2003-12-03, 6-4-6-4-13=33
Hazy blond color, big head, very nice lace. Original aroma, sweet citrus fruits, white sugar. Quite harsh in the beginning, a dry mouthfeel given by a thin malt and a rather long hop infusion. Drinkable, but I don’t know how it got the Gold Medal at GBBF 1998.

Cloudy brown-amber color. Malt and fruits in the aroma, candies. Quite robust body, with a good maltiness, light roasted note, stronger caramel at the end, and a quite long bitterness. Regular Bitter, very similar to a bitter Dubbel.
