Description
A taste of the moors on tap.

Established in 2003 by Nick Boughton and Jon Hunt, the brewery is located in an 18th-century textile mill and uses an eight-barrel plant. More than 30 regular outlets are supplied. The Millstone Brewery restores a traditional craft to the town of Mossley, situated where the counties of Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire meet.

Today Millstone is still producing popular beers that are being enjoyed not only locally but nationwide through our trusted distributors. Having brewed numerous beers over the years, we've narrowed our beers down to a strong core range of three regulars, including a stout, and three occasional. This doesn't mean that we're not working on or developing new beers so keep your eyes peeled.

Cask ale shared with ManVsBeer at Fighting Cock. Nitro creamy, fawn-coloured head. Deep dark-orange coloured body. Slightly smoked aroma, hints of dark malts and molasses. Flavoured with earthy malts, dried fruits and a touch of smoke. Rounded dry malty-fruity end. Medium bodied. Quite tasty (Bradford 08.07.2015).

25th April 2015: gravity poured half-pint at a beer festival in the Duke of York, Lichfield. Another citrusy blonde, fed up with them. This was not as bad as some, but I would like brewers to move on now and leave this fad behind. Scored objectively.

On cask at the Stockbridge Tap. Appearance - close to opaque black but with some red chinks. . Nose - chocolate and toffee with a nuttiness too. Taste - all of the nose redelivered on the taste. Thereโ€™s a creamy backdrop too. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long elegant finish. Overall - a lovely stout. Not sure itโ€™s dry though.

Cask at GBBF โ€™14, day 5, 16/08/14. Black with a good sized light tan covering that retains well. Nose is light roast, on the thin side, papery, faint cocoa powder. Taste comprises dark fruit notes, liqourice, light chocolate, brown bread. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, roasted notes in the close. Pretty average fayre, looked and felt good but lacked at the business end.
