Description
It was 1857 when Hugo Bayerlein founded the Bayreuther Bierbrauerei. In 1872 Hugo Bayerlein sold the brewery to a group of investors. These changed the brewery's name to a public limited company and sold the shares to Bayreuth families. In 1965, the Maisel brewery, with its Gebr. Maisel brewery, acquired a large package of shares and thus provided a positive impetus for the further development of our Bayreuth brewery. In this way, the Bayreuth brewery was able to maintain its independence, develop positively and enter into a well-functioning cooperation with the neighboring family brewery. With a large portion of foresight, the managers of our Bayreuth beer brewery and the Gebr. Maisel brewery decided in the 1960s to use our capacities together. So the new location was selected jointly and the joint production facility was founded.

SWING-TOP 50CL.

Look: hazy amber, big off-white head with good retention and lacing.
Aroma: rich malty, grainy and husky, white bread, somehow fruity and juicy.
Taste: quite dry and drinkable, rather harsh grains with husk, but with a juicy sweet-and-sour fruit character that makes it quite enjoyable, some light phenolic finish with light astringency.

Not bad, despite the flaws.

Flip-top bottle into the brewery badged glass tankard on 6th May 2014 in The Crown Inn, Oakengates. Reddy brown chestnut colour with a cream head. Malts rule the brew: semi-sweet malty molasses reach your nose and follow along in the taste. More Dunkel than Landbier to my way of thinking, but a pleasant beer all the same. Made a nice change from all the cask offerings I’d had earlier in the evening, this rounded the session off very well.

Swingtop bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours dark copper with a beige head. Mild floral aroma with some light caramel. Med body, almost. Flavor suggests English bitter for a second, then develops a hint of malt sour, then moves on to a rather tasty caramel with not too spicy noble hop. Good drink.

0,5 l bottle, with a different decent label art than in the header. Pale yellow and cloudy, steady white head. Yeasty herb banana on the nose. Starts very smooth, caramell, wheat, low banana, not so sweet as some other Weizen. High carbonated. Not very intensive taste, but easy to drink.

Poured from a 500mL bottle. Aroma is super grainy with wheat character and a hint of caramel. No diacetyl or phenolics. Moderate toasted bread notes. No esters or hop aroma. Pours a somewhat cloudy, copper-orange with a fairly thick, pillowy white head with good retention. Moderately high lacing with faint legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with toasted bread and light caramel. Light graininess and wheat notes. Medium light bitterness with no hop flavor. No diacetyl, esters or phenolics. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Light silkiness upfront with a crisp finish. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a nice clean beer with a lot of malt character. Easy drinking with a clean finish. A touch stale.
