330ml bottle. Pours cloudy orange-y yellow, quite off-putting. Strong lemon aroma, so strong it can’t be natural. Clear lemon taste, sweet and tart, but not much beer taste left, which isn’t so bad considering the original Bintang taste.

330ml bottle. Pours golden with a medium head that quickly settles. Aroma of used frying oil, but luckily not too strong. Good bitterness, softly carbonated, so you can actually taste a bit of hops and malt in there. Quite soft altogether. Re-rated after drinking this for a week: This beer has a weird side-taste to it that somehow escaped me in my first rating.

Helder geel bier met veel schuim. Smaak is verrassend bitter hoppig met iets van fruit. Goed te drinken bier.

330ml bottle into glass. Big whiff of burnt rubber when you open the bottle, soon gone replaced by tiny spice note. Yellow/amber with small receding head. Quite bitter initial taste followed by a kind of artificial sweetener hit. One is enough. Seems to leave your tongue numb.

Bottle, 0.33l, courtesy of Rade. Clear golden color with medium frothy white head and sparkling appearance. Aroma of grass, paper, cereals with slight citric note. Taste starts light sweet grainy and chalky, follows grassy with crisp and dry mouthfeel and moderate bitter finish. Light body, thin texture and lively carbonation in palate. Thirst killer of fun killer? Well, not that bad, could be much worse...

Indonesia’s standard lager, with thin but stable and regular, snow white head and pale golden blonde colour with steady fizz. Very weak aroma mostly revealing ’lightstruck’ (cat pee) effect at first, after which a faint sourish graininess appears, a bit sweaty (I hesitate to write this: feet?), a hint of iron and cooked rice, hardly any hops at all. Taste is on the neutral side, thin and watery with medium carbonation, some minerals, but the sourish graininess from the aroma dominates and leads to a finish with some faint and simple grassy hops along with a somewhat wry ’chemical’ plastic effect, as I would expect from ’macro’ lagers in the style of Heineken and the like. Nothing redeeming at all, this is below average even for an Asian standard pale lager.
