This beer was just a homebrew try, on a small-scale brewing installation, by homebrewer W. Roelens, "culminating" in only 30l of beer. But because of its success with most tasters on two public outings, the beer might be produced in future on the larger brewing installation. Fully hazy lemon-yellow, yeast all in suspension; little disappearing white head. Nose of paint, wheat and other grains (coriander,...) Cough syrup from the sixties, finish is spicey and again something like elderberry syrup, but diluted with very watered lemon squash. Light body, but all the same gist slickness. Very home-brewer like. Is only in very limited supply. Second batch, same recipe, but adjusted spicewise, commercial execution Again much coriander/spices/wheat & grains. At least that’s what I dig, because no coriander is used!. The taste is more straightforward; spicey, sweet-light sourish with green malt. Spiceyness is not coriander-ish here, but the juniper is unrecognisable. Much better balance, home-brew character all but gone. Would gain at least 0.2 points, giving it 3/5.

Bottled (vintage 2003, 6.5%). Hazy orange brown colour, mediumsized beige head. Weak raisins, alcohol and ginseng in aroma along with some hints of oak. Oaky flavour with malty, licoracyish and alcoholic hints. Aftertaste is kind of bitter

Dark ruby brown/red, good creamy tanned head. Woody, licorice aroma with some spices, which I can only descrbe as "inner rubber of bycycle wheel". Soft palate, licorice flavours, oaky notes, long bitter aftertaste.

Bottled at RBESG. Near black. Rose aroma. Sweet and roasty, salty and intense with notes of milk chocolate. Very soft mouthfeel. Like a flower garden a summer morning.... Complea and unusual, incredibly refined compared to most other Belgian stouts.

A black beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with primary notes of caramel, but also fruits and alcohol are present. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and fruit. The mouthfeel is quite carbonated. I better get back to this one, since my notes are very limited for such a complex beer.

(Bottle 33 cl) Very dark brown, but not completely opaque. Small, light brown head. Nose of roasted malts. Extremely full-bodied with notes of bitter, dark chocolate and roasted malt. Marked alcohol and sweetness. Light ashy notes and only a short, dry bitterness which never really balances the sweetness. But this doesn’t appear unbalanced, but very lovely. 120805

Virtually no head, grey rim for a couple of seconds; very dark brown beer with orange edges. Liquorice, burnt oats or barley, point of lactic acid nose. Sweet, but not annoying, grains, roasted and burnt grains. Sudden and surprising perfume of rosewater, bit of medicinal taste as well. Less over-full bodied than I’m used to from R.I.S. Long, slick aftertaste. I’m surprised. I thought going to be bowled over. Instead, it is a very discreet beer, completely hiding its ABV. Americans would make this more bold blindly.

(Bottle 33 cl) I don’t know what the term "pico" means, but it sounds small. At the listed address, there wasn’t any sign, that this was a brewery. Maybe beacuse the beer is brewed at the De Graal in Bakkel. But we found this at a local beer-store. Beautiful red-brown color. The beer is filtered, but not pasteurized with quite a lot of yeast sediments. Very spicy with 6 different malts and 3 hops. Light brown head and good lacing. Quite typical dark ale, but with a rather sophisticated aromatic character. 050804

Bottled. Clear golden. Rich aroma of herbal spices. Sweet and softly malty with notes of licorice and banana. Anise and salt in the finish. Hop dominated.

Bottled. Cloudy golden. Banana aroma. Sweet and soft with medium body. The malt and yeast character in given more space in this beer than in their hop dominated Blond Extra. Pleasant and very drinkable.
