Description
All Dikke Jan beers are brewed by ourselves at the DECA brewery in Vleteren (Woesten). This brewery has a long historical background. The unique thing about this very special artisanal brewery is that it is still brewed in the old maisch tub. She is no less than one hundred years old! Fermentation also still takes place in open copper and stainless steel vats. Top beers are brewed here in the old fashioned way.

Taste: dish soap, pretty bitter, more soapy flavours, bit sweet, unpleasant bitterness. Aftertaste: bit sourish, spicy touch, soapy bitterness, don't like this one at all...

Pours unclear blonde, ok white head. Smell is mildly bitter. Taste is ... what ? The taste is slightly smoked... A warning on the label would have been nice... Goddamn... The smokyness is in balance with the rest of the beer, however, making me not gag within seconds, as other smokeds sometimes might do. As far as I am a reliable source in this field, the smokyness has been done well. The type of smokyness is the ’least bad’to me ( I am just NOT a fan of smoke ) giving it the fleshy character. The malts and thus the malty sweetness really balance the smoky touch. Its a weird combo. The most weird thing is, I actually do not hate this... Its clearly smoked, but I can drink it, wtf? All I can say is , change your label and warn people, PLUS, My god, this is probably the best smoked I ever had...

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Thompson and Bobson. Hazy yellow orange color, full sized white to off-white head that lasts for a long time. Smell and taste malts, a bit yeasty, a touch of fruitpeel and only a touch of bitter. Average to medium body and carbonation. One of so many but not unpleasant.
