Description
A meadery and brewery based in the border between Wales and England making a modern twist on the world's oldest form of alcohol. Lighter, sparkling and infused with a variety of flavours.

Hey! We're Kit and Matt. We set up Wye Valley Meadery in 2018 and have been producing a growing range of delicious sparkling and traditional meads ever since. Our experimentation led us to create some beer / mead hybrids and we quickly realised this required further investigation.

330ml can from Everyman's Wines. Deep reddish appearance, no head. Strange sweet glacé cherry flavours with a hint of Bakewell icing that is probably the honey mead coming through. Not massively into this kind of cherry flavour unfortunately but comes across well.

28/6/2024. Bottle bought at Hive Mind Mead & Brew Co, Caldicot. Pours clear dark mahogany brown with a small frothy off-white to beige head. Aroma is smoky, roasted, dark fruits, chocolate, caramel, ashtray, dark honey. Medium sweetness, roasted bitterness and body. Slight fruity tart edge developed. Smokiness faded. Got better.

Bottle. Nose is chocolate, whiskey, cherry, hint of marzipan and cola coffee. Taste is a complete non event; light chocolate, very light whiskey, spice, malt. There's no finish and no body. Thin. Surprisingly poor.

330ml bottle from Forest Deli, Coleford mid-way through a gravel ride through the Forest of Dean. Pours a dark, unclear brown, some bubbles but not enough to form a decent head. Taste reveals it's a bit flat unfortunately, some wintery spice coming through but not too much. Deep amber malt, soft whisky hints but simply lacks life which sees the flavours deflated from what it could be. Shame.

330ml bottle from Everyman's. Pours hazed dark with a large off-white head. Overly high carb unfortunately but some very nice dark roasted malt shades here. Barely discernible honey notes, some dusty smoke but no as much as expected. Generally a decent beer but needs some tweaking.
