Description
The Craft Academy helps craft new talent and unbottle potential by giving young people the chance to earn while they learn about brewing, design, marketing and sales. With the help of experienced mentors, the 18 month course teaches participants industry-specific skills as they work towards a bespoke apprenticeship qualification, all while creating beers under the Craft Academy brand and bringing them to market.

The Florence has a long history of being a brew pub. Formally the home of Head in the Hat brewery; a heritage brewery that proudly called us their home until 2015. Continuing this rich history we are proud to welcome Craft Academy as our new in house brewing team.

330ml bottle as 'Ice Breaker Pale Ale'. Drank while watching the 3rd England v West Indies Test at home on 24th July 2020. Poured into an 'Old Speckled Hen' badged pint vase glass. Clear golden body, weak white head. Fruity hop nose and taste, it's fine. England are 7 for 1 wicket, not a great start.

Bottle from Waitrose. Amber in colour, with a thin, white, head. Citrus hops, sweet, slightly flabby malts, some jammy fruit and a moderately dry finish. Ok.

330ml as Greene King Ice Breaker - Gold body, little white top. Bog standard malted biscuity with a bit of citrus hop profile. Nothing outstanding, but not bad for an 88p bargain bin buy.

[33cl bottle from my local Londis.] A golden amber pour with a loose cream head; pleasant malty citrus aroma; similar taste with a sweet malty body with some caramel and some pink grapefruit. Very drinkable.

Bottle at the Crown, Hazlemere, 31/12/19. Clear golden blonde with a decent white head. Nose is tangerine, grass, toasted malts, citric tinged straw. Taste comprises orange zest, faint pine, grass, melon, toasted grains, light weed, hint floral. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with light juicy to grassy hop bitterness. Not that bad actually !

Draft at The Oak Barrel, HEL as Greene King Ice Breaker. Golden colour and creamy medium-sized off-white head. Flowery citrus aroma. Light-bodied. Pale malty, citrusy and flowery hops. Some off-flavours but I think they are from tap.

Bottle at Black Prince, New Haw. Vague pine aroma. Slightly hazy pale gold. Creamy white head. Light bitter and a load of buttery malts. Light. Thin. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. Pretty awful but didn't look at the date on the bottle.

Bottle at The Battleaxes, Elstree. Dull golden-amber with a thin white head and negligible fizz. Nice tropical fruit up front, quickly descends into caramel and orange with a cardboardy bitterness in the finish. Don't think GK have really understood this style.
