Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 25/09/13. Golden with a slight white head. Stone and tropical fruits, some slightly creamy malts and a dryish finish. Fine.

Bottles from Cornelius and The Beerhive. Hazy orange body with a medium white head that holds well. Lively carbonation. Excellent lacing. Aroma of lemon, blood orange and white pepper. Flavour of orange, salted caramel, lemon and light spices. Medium body with a frothy mouthfeel. Nice carbonation fizz. A lovely Saison, but I’d prefer if the alcohol content was a bit higher, as it could develop more complexities of flavour.

Keg at holyrood 9a. Fruity, bitter, yeasty.

Bottle at home... Golden yellow amber.. Thin white head... Dry zezty fruits nose... Light peppery bitterness... Soft fruits.. Oily orange... Juicy fruits... Hints of dry cider... Wierd but nice Keg at the hanging bat... No Goose berry mention and 8.7.golden amber.. Thin white lacing.. Soft dry apple soft fruits nose.. Soft herbal apple 3.6

Caramel brown, dark ruby light through, clear, off white head
Aroma - Raisin malts, little smoky, dark fruity malts, caramel, soft sherry, dab of molasses, some alcohol
Taste of rich fruity caramel malts, raisin, soft sherry, dark fruits, very soft smoke, barrel aging is subtle, quite boozy though
Palate - Medium carb, medium body, fairly syrupy sweet fruity palate, mouthcoating. Finish as main flavour, touch hot on the alcohol, bit of smoke on the tail
Overall - I like the subtle barrel aging here....perhaps a little too boozy

500ml bottle at home. Pours clear amber with a good, long-lasting, white head. Aromas of woodsmoke, smoked meat, and a touch of caramel. Something spicy too. I believe the juniper has been dropped? And I think it’s the better for it, less confusion on the palate, and all about the smoke. Good.

Re-rate two months later... plus point four as the finish has got drier making for a much more pleasant drink. Bottle from Appellation Wines - Cheers Ash! Pours a cloudy orange with thin white head. Aromas of gooseberry tart, apple pie, I might be imagining custard? White pepper comes through on the taste, but it?s lacking something that the nose promises. Palate is cloying and chewy, and too sweet a finish. Interesting.

50cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - cloudy, golden orange with a nicely proportioned thin head. Nose - creamy apple and gooseberries on a malty background - apple and gooseberry crumble. Taste - really hard to nail what I’m getting - definitely apple and definitely the Saison yeast effect so white pepper and tropical fruits. There’s also a toffee sweetness on the finish. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy yet creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - it’s very hard to exactly describe what it is, it’s very complex and the palate is fantastic.

50cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - cloudy golden orange with nice carbonation and a very generous head. Nose - lemon sorbet, white pepper. Taste - tart lemon, some spice, dry yeasty finish. Palate - medium bodied and creamy texture with a dry finish. Overall - a good example of a Saison though not one of Tempest’s best.

Bottle, many thaks to JohnRMurdoch. Deep dark coloured body with a ruby glint. Firm, fawn-coloured head. Mild smoked malty nose with a touch of dried fruits. Chocolate malty flavour, almost confectionery, joined by raisin and plums and followed by a sherry-like ending. Fine bodied. Very nice, enjoyed slowly as a night cap (hotel room, Edinburgh 10.08.2013).
