Black, ruby edges, thin tan head, good lacing
Aroma of soft roasted malts, soft smoked malt, some pepper in the nose
Taste - creamy fairly sweet deep dark malts, some dark fruits, nice peppery heat, soft smoke, some bitter roast in the background, nice chocolate malts, good balance, more peppery heat than the smoke which is soft
Palate - medium body, rich mouthfeel, very smooth palate. FInish as main flavour, smooth dark rich malts, soft smoked peppery burn in the finish with a slight bitter malt residue
Overall - Great beer here by Tempest, nice soft smoke and a well balanced good flavour peppery heat. One of their best.

Cask at Cobbler’s Inn. Clear golden body with a medium white head. Light lacing marks. Mild aroma of tangerine, grain and biscuit. Flavour is light, fruity and fresh. Very easy drinking. Medium body with an oily texture. Simple and well balanced. A good session ale.

On tap @ the Cobbles Inn, Kelso. Pours opaque black with a slim but nice head. The nose has rich aromas of coffee and tar and just a hint of the smoked chillis but you have to look for them. The taste is more of the coffee, going into treacle with again a hint of the smoked chilli thing. The palate is medium to full bodied with a big creamy texture and a finish that is sweet, though not as cloying as some. Overall, a complex beer though a pint was enough. Perhaps for a dessert occasion!

Bottle at JF tasting, from Nina’s min market, the Burgh - 29/12/12. Hazed dark amber with a thin off white head that clears to the edge. Nose carries mineral tones, fruit, orange, spice. Taste comprises hops, pine, mango, light grapefruit, pumpkin, mineral tones. Medium bodied with bite, soft carbonation, bitter fruity finish. This one worked for me !

Bottle on the train from Edinburgh (from Nina’s Mini Market) - 08/12/12. Hazed mid amber with a thin off white head that retains having firstly escaped to the edge and formed a film. Nose is bitter pine, hops, lght fart, touch of mango, grapefruit, a little smoke. Taste comprises bitter grapefruit, dark bitter orange, hops, pine, orange pith, caramel, mango, mineral tones. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter finish. Decent.

Reddish brown, clear, creamy off white head, good lacing
Aroma of soft smoked malts and wood
Taste of smoky malts, dab of fried bacon, caramel malts, cereals, herbal notes, some toasted malt, unusual flavour, aromatic, not keen on the smoky bit herbal taste, it’s well made but i’m not really liking the taste
Palate - soft carb, medium body, creamy smooth texture, good mouthfeel, finish as main flavour
Overall - I’m not a fan of smoked beers, but a half of this is not bad but no more

Bottle at home (from Nina’s Mini Market, Edinburgh) - 19/12/12. Light black with a thin tan head that quickly dissipates to the edge of the glass and leaves a film atop. Nose is big mocha coffee, rich roast, really delivers the mission statement in this sense. Behind the dominant coffee theres a little roast malt, sweet sugary espresso. The taste doesn’t match up to the nose however it delivers a solid coffee infused porter. Roast malt, bitter sweet dark sugar, espresso coffee, light chocolate. Medium bodied, quite thin for a 7.4 % beer to be honest, soft carbonation, dry finish. An excellent porter from Tempest.

Bottle shared at The Kernel, London - many thanks to BenH for sending this bottle South! Pours clearish, amber-gold with a tight, off-white cream head. Toasty malt nose, light earth, hints of fruits and autumnal vegetables. Medium sweet flavor with some darkened citrus, light pine, earth. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Toasty brown bread finish with mild piney hops, earth and hints of brown sugar. Not particularly pumpkiny, but a decent ale nonetheless.
