Description
Nick - The Brewer
I confess...in my twenties I only drank coffee or Guinness. My education in craft beer began in 2003 when Fin and Loz moved next door. Visits together to breweries, pubs and beer loving friends all over Europe followed. For the next ten years we ran a beer festival in our home village of Merton in Oxfordshire.

Anna - The Crofter
I first came to Harris when I was two years old. My Uncle & Aunt were renovating a croft house in the Bays of Harris. It was very different from life in Oxfordshire but I loved it. In 2014 we moved to the island with our family and four years later settled at Croft N°6 in Borrisdale overlooking the Sound of Harris.

Spud - The Boss
Spud is the youngest member of the Isle of Harris Brewery team but he quickly rose through the ranks to become Managing Director.

Bottle courtesy of Nick (brewer) cheers Nick! Had this at home Thursday 19th November 2020 whilst listening to Steve Lamaq on 6Music. Pours light/mid gold with a white head, there is a tiny bit of haze, like the No:1 it's a good looker. A tiny bit of citrus and pepper on the nose. Nice soft mouthfeel, light buzzy tingling from the bubbles. Good bitterness, the Magnum hops very workmanlike and offering up a nice counterpunch to the more elegant Cascade which itself throws a right hook loaded up with a big dollop of grapefruit and lemon and pithiness all round. Good.

Bottle courtesy of Nick, Isle of Harris Brewery, cheers Nick. Had this with Kedgeree and listening to New Model Army on 6Music with Thunder and Consolation from Steve Lamaqs album club Wednesday 18th November 2020. Pours dark brown, light cocoa notes on the aroma, rich chocolate in the mouth, really good, super indulgent and smooth, I get both rich dark chocolate and milk chocolate, light bitter roast finish.

Bottle courtesy of Nick, brewer, consumed at home Monday 16th November 2020 (my birthday), about to cook Chicken Yadda and listening to Hum - Inlet. Pours hazy amber with a white head, light maltiness on the nose, soft mouthfeel. Hoppy a little numbing on the tongue and mintiness like the IPA, definitely think that the Phoenix is adding the mint (herby taste but I get mint) malty underbelly, some rustic earthy hops. Absolutely fine but not really showing the abv or complexity of a traditional Old Ale.

Bottle courtesy of Nick (brewer) cheers Nick! Had this at home Thursday 12th November 2020 whilst listening to Nemone on 6Music. Pours light/mid gold with a white head, there is a very slight haze, it's a good looker. Clean, fresh nose, light fruity notes but it is a subtle aroma. Taste is fruity with a little citrussy edge, a slight minty taste, I am thinking that this might be the Phoenix hop, there is a bitter linger throughout. It's quite a nice beer and a pretty good, solid start for Isle of Harris. However a if this were described as a Pale Ale, I would probably be a little more generous, for me an IPA should be a minimum of 5%+, this doesn't quite carry enough bitterness for me for the style, but this minor quibble aside it is a nice beer.
