Description
Brewery started in 1984 as Hoskins and Oldfield. During 2001 the brewery became inoperable, beers are being brewed by them at Lloyds Country Beers Ltd and Belvoir Brewery Ltd. The brewery was renamed to Hoskins Brothers in March 2002. Beer was by September 2002 being contract brewed at Tower Brewery. During the second half of 2005 brewing moved to Winchester Arms and Buckland Brewery and subsequently at Monstex.

Beige, creamy head atop of a jet black body. Aroma of roasted, sweet dark malts. Creamy chocolate taste offset by a nice bitter round off. Cask, half, very well kept at Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield 1 Oct 10.

Cask at Ealing beer festival 2010. A black coloured pour with no head. Fruity, caramel, roasty rather thin. Quite forgettable really.

Cask-conditioned at the Wellington, Birmingham 01/02/10. Dark brown with reddish undertones and next to no head. A sweetish, fruity mild with a light mouth feel and slightly bitter finish. Forgettable.

Cask (handpump) @ Market Porter, 9 Stoney Street, Southwark London, Greater London England SE1 9AA.Clear medium to dark brown color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, berry, sugar, moderate to light heavy spicy, pudding. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long to average duration, has some anis in the finish. Body is medium, texture is oily - sticky, carbonation is flat. [20081227]

Cask gravity at White Cliffs BF 09. Bleachy acidic aroma, some fruit in mouth, damson and sour plum. Somewhere between an old ale and bleach. Lots of damson fruit. Poor.

Cask, gravity at Merton Winter Beer Festival 6th and 7th Feb 2009 Pours murky brown with only the smallest of heads. Taste is quite strong with alcohol showing, plenty of malts, bit sweet. I found that this was just lacking a little too much and never returned to it . A6 A2 F5 P3 OV10 2.6

Cask Conditioned at Market Porter, London, 4% ABV
Muddy deep blond color. Light aroma, earthy, light manure. Malty flavor, with a light grainy touch, some pleasant sweetness, light cookies, correct bitterness, quite good hopping. Good.

Cask (handpump) @ Wellington, Birmingham, England B2.Clear dark brown almost black color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate, mild coffee. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration. (Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 30 Nov 2007) Black colour with brief, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of freshly ground coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Roasted, malty taste with black coffee, blueberries and chocolate. Fairly dry with thinner than average body. Nice, very drinkable stout.

Cask@Shackerstone Family Festival MMV, Leicestershire. Flat black beer with slight chocolate aroma notes and a bitter/malty flavour that is vinous but weak. Overall a poor strong beer.
