Description
Pucker Up & Join the Sour Revolution

Cascade Brewing has been a pioneer in the sour beer renaissance since 2006 and is the proud innovator of the Northwest Sour Ale. We are, by nature, the definition of artisanal brewing: we’re not bound by stylistic guidelines, just our own imagination and the ingredients we can access. Our distinctive sour beer blends feature fruit forward, barrel-aged ales that offer a complex array of flavors derived from Northwest grown ingredients, with each release capturing the unique subtleties of that year’s growing season. Our beers are brewed at our original brewery in Southwest Portland, then blended and aged at our nearby Blending House, which holds more than 1,300 oaks barrels and nine foudre tanks.

From tap at Cascade Barrel House, Portland. 2015 vintage. Aroma is fairly complex with a lot of zesty citrus peel on the front, mandarin, tangerine, apricot, oak, vanilla. Flavour is big sour flavour, nicely puckering sour. Body is medium. Big zesty citrus peel complemented by soft Bourbon vanilla with a strong puckering sour flavour, really good!

From tap at Cascade Barrel House, Portland. As Cascade IPA. Aroma is soft fruity hops, biscuity malt, orange, with a touch of pine. Flavour is light to moderate sweet with a bitter finish. Body is medium. Rather ’classic’ IPA, not a hop bomb, maybe a little rough, but it tasted pretty agreeable from tap.

From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Logged this here because the abv and name on the board match, though I'm not picking up any bourbon. Aroma is quite spicy with nutmeg, pumpkin spices, vinegar, malt, oak, red fruits, and a touch of liquor. Massively sour flavour with a lot of sweetness as well. Body is medium to full. Typical Cascade puckering sourness, lots of spices surfacing gradually in the aroma. Nice one, good use of pumpkin spices.

From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Wow, a non-puckering Cascade Sour?! Fruity aroma with flowery notes, rose pedals, citrus, rose hips. Flavour is medium sour (mild for Cascade) and tart. Body is medium. Very nice flowery Sour, some fruits as well.

From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Aroma is vinous with white grapes, wood, fruits, white wine, some citrus, and funky notes. Puckering sourness with sweet tones, but not as intensely sour as I've come to expect from Cascade. Good!

Can at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Robust sourness with plenty of candy-like sweetness as well. Boozy like a cocktail, orange peel, bourbon, tart berries, bit vinous. Medium body. A lot going on. In your face, as expected from Cascade.

Bottle at the DCBeer bottle share. Poured a prety looking, red-wine red color. Aroma was tart grape. Big vinous character here. Port wine, some light dusty notes, with a bit of age on it. Tart, but not sour grape wine, with some light leather and cherries.
