Description
The brewery (location) is closed, beer is being brewed in Alabama @ Oyster City Brewing.
It all began with a Christmas gift in 1994. Billy Pyatt, a notoriously hard guy to buy presents for, fell in love with the carboys, pots, hydrometers, grains, hops, chemistry, and physics involved in brewing. His brother, Scott, fell right in with him. Their love became an obsession that could only be resolved by going pro – not an easy thing to do in 1999!
We have tasting Rooms in Asheville, Morganton and Charlotte NC. Our kegs & cans are distributed in TN, NC, SC, GA and AL.

Not sure what was wrong with the first pint I had, but this can is a completely different beast, a monstrous west coast IPA coupling juicy Citra notes with a shitload of Pacific Northwest Cascade pine. Still not a huge fan--the bitterness comes across as outsized for the simple malts--but it's far better than I first thought, especially with the aroma, a vast thicket of pine resin, lemon, and herb.

Pour is a hazy tan with a small white head. Aroma is an ok darker bread crust with some sweetness. Flavor is a nice clean dry fresh baked bread with no real bitterness or sweetness. A nice dray malt is left on the tongue as this goes down. This did not start out great but it ended well. A nice rich malty marzen.

Draft at the Charlotte location. Pale yellow color white head. Fresh salad aroma. Taste has lime and cukes in a combo that works pretty well. Refreshing.

Draft at the Charlotte location. Clear yellow color, white head with solid lacing. Very subtle apple aroma. Taste is very subtle sour and very subtle fruit. Way too subtle, not much here.

Draft at Moo & Brew. Was looking for this one, since the brewery tap in town was out. Unfortunately I found it. Crystal clear golden scant head. Light melon aroma. Taste is even lighter, almost blank. Disappointing.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam. Rad drinkablility. Light body, tons of pungent citrus, low malt. Great west coast style IPA. Medium bitterness on the finish. Just a ton of citrus and light dankness, some pine. Clean and whistle. Really awesome for the price point. --- Beer merged from original tick of HOPness Monster IPA on 23 Jul 2017 at 16:11 - Score: 8. Original review text: Rad drinkablility. Pour is a hazy orange with a average white head. Aroma is a orange peel with a big bitterness. Flavor is a citrus fruit with more of a huge bitterness. Finish leaves a little honey malt sweetness along with more bitterness on the tongue. An ok flavor with this beer but the bitterness is a bit harsh.
