Description
Viru Brewery was Estonia's third largest brewery, and produced the Wiru, Puls, Žiguli and various other brands. It was located in Haljala in Lääne-Viru County.

Production of beer was discontinued in 2020.

(Bottle. Thanks to SaintMatty) Reddish brown colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, roasted nose with dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, toasty malt and raisins. Malty taste with notes of dark bread, caramel, roasted, malt, brown sugar and a slightly bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, with some sugary sweetness and low bitterness. Decent but a bit unrefined.

(Bottle. Thanks to SaintMatty) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, toasty nose with notes of dark bread, roasted malt, raisins and prunes. Malty, roasted taste with dark bread, dried fruit, raisins and crispbread. Mild spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a balanced sweetness. Quite decent dunkel.

Bottled, thanks SaintMatty! Clear dark brown, small head. Aroma of sweet black cherries. Very sweet with clean, hard mouthfeel. Perfumy cherries that clashes with the simplistic lager beneath. Brief salty finish. Semi-tolerable industrial fruit lager.

50cl bottle, courtesy of and shared with Gnoff. Dorée, blanche. Arôme de jus e citron, pointe de malt et là le citron ressort plus en aspect de jus que extrait. Rappelle l’eau de brassin avec une note de malt et de jus de citron. Laisse un fini acidulé/amer. Pas mauvaise, et de loin meilleure que la pléthore de raddler allemandes.

33cl can, courtesy of and shared with Gnoff. Dorée, blanche. Arôme malté doux, nez typique de lager restant néanmoins douce. En bouche, malté léger, malt pils avec présence de riz/maïs donnant une belle douceur. En comparaison avec ce qui se fait dans le même style, cette bière reste convenable.

Bottled, from Tallinn. Brownish copper colour, small head. Sweet withplenty of bitter herbs. Medium bodied with some cloying syrup. Juicy, very slightly roasty with slight herbal bitterness.

Bottle 500ml. clear glass @ chriso s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011.Clear light yellow colour with a small, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, grain, cereal, vegetables, light cardboard. Flavour is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average duration, acrid bitter paper, cabbage water. Body is light to medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110730]

Bottle at ChrisO’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011. Yes! Clear, pale yellow pour with a big, foamy white head. Some cereal and grain on the nose. Light sweet flavor, grain and cardboard. Light bodied with average carbonation. Faintly sweet finish. There you go.
