Description

Sampled at Gents bierfestival 2018. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Pours unclear blonde. No head. Smell is lemongrass indeed. Overkill, unfortunately. Taste is full. Overpowering lemongrass. Balance is completely lost.thin body. Rather low Carbo.

Sample at Gents Bierfestival, Laatste Drinker's third creation so far, to my knowledge. Loose and bubbly, off-white, quickly opening, large-bubbled head, cloudy yolk-like orange blonde robe. Aroma of sweet lemon candy, limoncello more than lemongrass, pear drops, basil leaves, ripe melon, meringue, lemonade, sweet onions - in all, unusual and a bit tropical, interesting. Fruity onset, ripe pear, watermelon and starfruit impressions, medium carb, supple and bit soapy mouthfeel; some minerally notes and lingering fruitiness accompany a soft, soapy wheat base to a very aromatic finish, mango peel, limoncello or lemon candy again more than actual lemongrass and even a dash of coconut somehow, but remaining very soft in bitterness. Original to say the least, this new generation of Ghent micro brewers is quite an interesting bunch of people to follow closely and Laatste Drinker is at last conquering its own fixed place in this colourful little world. This one has certain experimental NEIPA features, a daring choice I'd say, and the end result is a brightly coloured, interesting, different beer which not everyone will enjoy, but which I found to be quite amusing.

Thanks to sharing RB crew. Sampled draft @ Gents Bierfestival 2018. Darker hazy yellow, small white head. Nose is dull plastic, BE yeast, despite American description, surprisingly neutral,… Orange, neutral, plastic, yeast, quite neutral, dull no lemongrass, thick bodied luckily. Not convinced.

Hazy pale yellow colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour are slightly grassy and wheaty. Light bodied and sessionable. Nice flavour to combine with food.

No head; hazy pineapplejuice-coloured beer. Bit fruity (strawberry, nectarine, gooseberry...), horsechestnut husk. More strawberry, but the beer goes quickly to more neutral flavour, maybe bit starfruit. Light body, bit slick. Finish is nondescript. Lemongrass? If you say so...

18/VIII/18 - on tap @ Gents Bierfestival - BB: n/a (2018-1024) Thanks to the Belgian Ratebeer crew for sharing today's beers!
Pretty cloudy pale blond beer, practically no head. Aroma: bit of banana peel, malty, some citrus, bit oxidized, spicy, cardamom notes. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sour, lemony touch, bitter hops, bit yeasty, hint of banana. Aftertaste: spicy finish, cardamom notes, bit fruity, hint of grapefruit. Not getting much of that lemon grass though...

22 July 2018. Gentse Feesten @ Brouwbar! Shared with Anke.
Pours hazy golden with a lasting, small, frothy, white head; little lacing. Aroma of banana, apricot, honey, perfume, hand soap, white bread, ripe orange, lemon. Medium fruity sweet onset, notes of honey, perfume, some orange, a bit yeasty, and light hoppy bitter, grassy somewhat; weird hint of spice & mint in the back - phenolic? Dryish, floral hoppy finish, lingering yeast, banana ester & honey, a dash of warming alcohol. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Unusual Strong Ale (Tripel?), reminded me a bit of Tripel Karmeliet, though I'm not wholly impressed.

Pours cloudy black with a lasting, thin, beige head; little lacing. Intense aroma of espresso, coffee & cream, fondant, praliné, salted peanut, milk chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, coffee liqueur, sweet tobacco & spices. It tastes medium malty sweet, hints of cream & subtle vanilla, and light roasted bitter, fondant & coffee, a bit spicy (Dr. Cardemom, I presume?), already warming in alcohol. Dryish, toasty, peppery hoppy finish, lingering malt & vanilla, warming coffee liqueur alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft to fizzy carbonation. Quite my style, balanced but buoyant.

Sampled @ Tilburg Bierfestival 2018. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized light brown colored head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, liquorice, laurel, some herbs or spices. Taste malts, again laurel, liquorice and herbs / spices, maybe something salty. Think the base is quite good but the laurel and liquorice is over the top. Too much for my liking anyway.
