Description
Sörműves Kft.

Horizont Brewing is an innovative, indepentent craft brewery, one of the first big names in the craft brewing scene in Hungary. With many medals earned, we are proud to announce that Horizont Brewing was the first mid-European brewery to win the Alltech Craft Beer Cup in 2017 in Dublin. The Sailor Belle, a Belgian Witbier fermented with Saison yeast, is still one of our bestsellers.

What we like is the versatility of our consumers. Our beers are gladly consumed by beer connoisseurs and everyday beer drinkers, and we created our beer portfolio to fulfill everyone's beer needs. Our beers are available in all Michelin star restaurants in Hungary and can be found in most of the craft beer bars around Budapest.

We believe brewing is an art form.

We try expressing that through our labels as well not only by whats inside on the bottles. For that reason we worked with a local artist who created artworks we used on our labels, specifically capturing the essence of the character of the beer on the canvas.

Bottle shared in a Bristol hotel room. Pours hazy gold with a frothy, white head. Pale grains in the nose, pine needles, ripe lemon. Medium sweet flavour with lime rind, pale bread, pine needles, mellow bitterness. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, oily, with more ripe citrus, lime, pale bread. Not bad overall.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up at Craft Beer Rising 2018. Pours clear gold with a frothy, pure white head that settles into a cream. A little dank in the snout, some ripening citrus fruit, pine, orange, mango. Light-medium sweet flavour with restrained piney bitterness, more ripening citrus fruits, a little dirty sock, pee, melon, mango, a whisper of booze. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Fairly well balanced to finish, with a bit of alcohol warmth, some supportive pale malts, hints of resinous pine, orange, mango. Overall, it's a well put together IPA.

Sampled at MEUG, Hungarian chilli porter with regularly shaped, medium thick, pale yellowish beige, moussy head and black robe with hazy mahogany edges. Aroma of cold tea, caramel, some dried chilli peppers but not too dominant, beef stock, wet dog, nutmeg, leather, damp earth, moist chocolate. Dried fruits in the onset, some fig, sweetish with a sourish undercurrent, beef stock-like meaty touch, softish carbo, chestnutty and caramelly malt sweet core with toasty bittering edges, soft herbal hop bitter ending with a lot of burning chilli heat - much more so than expected based on the aroma. A bit over the top in spiciness, but at least the heat distracts from the fact that this is, in its core, a porter too thin, too earthy and too umami-forward to be really great.

At MEUG, my first beer from this Hungarian craft brewery, an IPA made with green coffee beans. Tightly papery lacing, eggshell-white, densely moussy head, hazy yellowish straw blonde robe with khaki hue. Aroma of indeed fresh green coffee beans, fresh dill, raw celery, unripe pear, grapefruit lemonade, old bread, baker's yeast, margarine, chervil soup. Fruity onset, hints of green melon, pear, light sourish plum, medium carbo, supple mouthfeel. Sweetish bready malt middle, a tad honeyish even, bit buttery (diacetyl?), dill-, dried mango- and flower-scented hoppiness providing mellow bitterness in the finish, the coffee fragrance piercing through retronasally. Interesting beer, could do with more New World hop fragrance and bitterness for any present-day IPA but the coffee is well-integrated.

Tasting glass from 330 ml. bottle @ MEUG 2018. Well that name sounds like a contradiction, I mean it is either the one or the other. Nose is dull soggy cereal, oats, wheat, soapy. Taste is dull wheat, cereal, soggy oats, wheat, dry, empty, bland. Meh.

Tasting glass from 330 ml. bottle @ MEUG 2018. Orange, little white head. Nose is oily orange peel, vegetable, cooked vegetables in smell & taste all the way, orange peel, weird lingering dull corn, lacking all hop, oily,… Weak bodied. Cooked vegetables should not be the main flavour in an APA.

Thanks! Sampled 330 ml. bottle @ MEUG 2018. Clear golden, little soapy white head. Nose is bit dirty, doughy, starch but also low juicy fruit. Bit empty & dull bodied, some white grape, chalky, doughy with some odd esters mixed in,… Lacking body, strange & not really what it should be but manageable for sure.
