Description
Brewery Rinkuškiai is the only family held brewery in Biržai region, known as the beer capital of Lithuania. The history of the brewery began many generations ago.
Beer has been brewed in Biržai region since the end of XI th century. The secrets of beer making have been passed from generation to generation. Jonas Čygas, local brewer, was famous for his outstanding beer even outside Biržai region. He brewed his barley beer for family celebrations like weddings and anniversaries. His beer was even brought to Vilnius, the capital, as a gift to the government officers.
Rimantas Čygas, the son of Jonas Čygas, established brewery Rinkuškiai in at the end of 1990, together with his relatives Petras Kalkys and Sigitas Kalkys.
In 1991 the first beer was brewed following authentic receipt of Jonas Čygas, in old wooden beer vats that now are exhibited at Rinkuškiai beer museum.
Since 1991 the brewery has modernized the facilities, expanded the assortment and production. Rinkuškiai is the largest local capital brewery in Lithuania and one of the five largest breweries in Lithuania, the only one of five run by the local brewery family. Rinkuškiai beer has been exported to the USA for more than 10 years, also to Poland, Latvia and Estonia. In 2014 some sorts of beer have been exported to Ireland and China. On September 2015 Rinkuškiai started exporting to Canada.
The owners of the brewery reveal that brewery is not merely a business, but a mission to preserve beer brewing traditions of Biržai region, the beer capital of Lithuania.

16.9oz bottle-pours a thin white head and yellow color. Aroma is grain, lime, then some corn and phenols. Taste is grain, lime, then some corn and phenols, secondary spicy hops. Some off notes but OK otherwise. Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing.

500ml bottle. I’ve had this one in the refrigerator for weeks, dreading it. The color is cloudy orange. The aroma wasn’t so bad. The taste is a tad overly sweet, almost a little fruity flavor, and the alcohol’s presence hides right behind it.. Not quite a drain pour, but always threatening. Better than US Macro Malt Liquor and some of the worst of the worst Russian/Ukranian trash out there. Almost like a bad Belgian beer...so not that bad.

Engaging label. Daunting sweet volatile fragrance. Plain old fashionable pale yellow Americana beer appearance. Essence and character on the palate is alky augmentation. For some reason, memory cells are triggering dreams of tequila. Overall just downright impolite, rude and boorish. Perfect for the style. Not as enjoyable as Red Star Summer Lager: Colossus in Disguise .

Thanks to tronraner for bringing this one to stevo’s. Well, I’ll have to be honest, this is not a great beer, but I found it to be no more offensive than an American swill Lager. Thin fleeting head of white over a pale yellow body. The aroma is largely acetaldehyde with some honey. The flavor is sweet with no balance from the hops if they are even there at all. Drinkable, but very one dimensional and a bit sweet.

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours a clear, golden with a rough, white head. Discreet aroma of sweet malt. Medium body, notes of brewing cereal and malt with an edge of cardboard. Dry and hoppy finish. 110108

"Thanks" to Brewfiend for this one. Gold color and heavily carbonated. Light malt and sweet corn aroma, and more corn in the flavor and a hint of apple. Smooth palate anyway, and it is drinkable.

Unusual, like a dunkel with a light palate. Malt and apple aroma. Sweet malt flavor, and brown sugar, with some salt. Light red color.
