Big can at LKS. It pours hazy orange - amber with a small white head. The aroma is sweet, sticky, oily, juicy, booze, slightly oxidised, fruit cake and roasted almonds. The taste is drying, bitter, oily, sticky, sort of bitter, boosty, peachy, oily, spice, chewy and candy with a warming and sweet finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Too heavy sweet. Fair.

Can split at Hackney Levels, thanks to Tipple, 08/06/17. Clear golden orange with a decent off white head. Nose is sweet malts, bitter orange, caramel, soft breads, spice. Taste comprises sweet licks, mango, pine, sweet malts, caramel, pine. Medium bodied with bite, fine carboantion, drying close with a mellow boost. Ok laid back DIPA but nothing I’d revisit.

Cask at the cock. A nut brown coloured pour with a lasting halo of white head. Aroma is nutty twiggy malts, brown leaves, raisin.. Flavour is composed of semi sweet grassy hop, rustic autumnal notes. Palate is semi sweet moderate carbonation. Not bad.

Cask. It pours clear deep amber with a small white head. The aroma is earthy, wood, leather, baked beans, caramel and toffee. The taste is dry, bitter, earthy, wood, leathery, pithy, zesty, spicy, leaves twig and tannin with drying finish. Light - medium body and soft carbonation. Basic bitter.

Can from ASDA, Sheerwater, Surrey. Unsurprisingly I has a smoky aroma, complemented by liquorice, roast and caramel. Oily black. The beige head starts off impressively before fading to virtually nought. At first it’s sour. This peaks before smoothing out into a hazy sweetness. Berries, jus and an increasing amount of liquorice. But never overstated. Medium body. Oily but not overly so. Lazy carbonation. Long dry/smoked finish. If I was being negative I’d say it was all a bit low key but, to give it the benefit of the doubt, I’ll go with well balanced. Does not overdo things.

Cask at the Euston Tap, East Lodge, 11/05/17. Light black with a decent tan head. Nose is chocolate biscuit, roast mats, light coffee grinds. Taste comprises coffee, cocoa powder, brown bread, light roast malt balance, spice, toffee. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Decent stout.
