Keg at the downtown brewpub, 11/2/23. Dark red, thin tan head, poor retention. Aroma of toffee, cherry, toasted malt. Taste is toffee, caramel, cherry, toast. Mild booziness.

On tap at Explorium - Milwaukee, pours a murky dark mahogany, no head. Aroma is very rich and malty, with tons of dark dried fruits, toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and gentle bourbon. Flavour is extremely sweet, which masks some of the booze, bringing out cloyingly sweet caramel, toffee, big bourbon, alcohol, and brown sugar. Way too sweet, hot, and rough. Its good some good things going on but the flaws are too detracting for it to be drinkable in more than an ounce.

On tap at Explorium - Milwaukee, pours a dark ruby red with a small beige head. Aroma has plenty of dark dried fruits, esters Belgian yeast, and caramel. Flavour is fairly sweet, with dark dried fruits, booze, and ester. Needs more carb and generally better expression of the Belgian yeast, but this is reasonably done. Not bad for an American Belgian.

On tap at Explorium - Milwaukee, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is messed up theres some kind of infection here I cant quite place (diacetyl, butyric? Because its a scotch ale, Im having trouble placing it). I cant believe Im going to take a sip Flavour is almost as bad, with bitter caramelthat must be diacetyland a dry, astringent finish. This is big time messed up.

On tap at Explorium - Milwaukee, pours a deep dark red with a small beige head. Aroma has plenty of toasted bready malt and caramelseems like itll be sweeter than it should be. Flavour is very malty but dry enough, with toasted dry caramel, bready malt, and a metallic tinge that shouldnt be there. The maltiness and dryness are there, but its a bit too metallic. Okay.

On tap at Explorium - Milwaukee, pours a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of resinous hops, sweet caramel malt, and a touch of pine. Flavour is balanced between sweet caramel malt and oily resinous hops. Sweet and malty, but the hops are strong enough to impart plenty of bitterness to balance. Pretty solid.

12oz can. Big barrel notes in the flavor and aroma. Lactose is wholly unnecessary but it is there and adds sweetness and mild vanilla. Heavy, sweet, enjoyable for what it is.

Pleasant enough brewpub version, not even close to as real Belgian. Deep red fruits. OK.

Minimal barrel tone. Sweet, sugary. No real depth. Quite a boring beer. lacks barrel tone. Lacks body. In general just lacks.

Tap at Explorium. Easy drinking medium body. Mild rye tone. OK. Not a lot going on. Not so impressive.
