Description

Good, lightly yellowish head; darker clear golden beer. "Beery" nose as entering the pub the morning after. Malt (crystal, pale and other) and toasted hops. Dry bitterish, as tubers or bulbs, over-hopped with the wrong hops, 'hopburn'. Very finish has something perfumey. Light bodied, bit slick, not very carbonated. Aftertaste turns out more pharmaceutical than perfumey. Strange bitterness. Thanks to Stef!

After the plain disaster the 'geuze' was, I decided to give them another try, everyone deserves a second chance, after all. This one pours clear, towards the amber side of color. Taste is full, bit tart, and very phenolic. Fruityness is very mild, since phenols overrule most of it. The beer is very 'wrang', as we say in Dutch, it's really not working at all. I decided not to bother anymore, making this one out of 3 breweries I didn't even try to complete at the festival.

first of all, gotta get this of my chest, as a true lambic / geuze enthousiast. I went to ask what this beer is exactly. The brewer told me that it's a blend of a 'wild' beer to which he pitched brettanomyces, and a saison. It does not consist of young and old beer either. Basically, there's no lambic in here whatsoever, ergo the name geuze can't ( and shouldn't ) be used here. Upon the question why the hell he did use it , since there is virtually nothing this beer has in common with an actual geuze, his reply was that he's brewery is very close to Boon brewery, which is - in his words - the biggest geuze-brewery (!) in Belgium (!) . When can we finally decide that education is a must, before becoming a brewer? True, i might have been a bit prejudgemental about this beer, upon receiving this kind of answers, but anyway… The beer pours clear blonde, with a small ring of foam. Smell is very weak, doesn't show anything, really. Taste is full, sharp, some spicyness by the saision yeast phenols. Very, very mild tartness. Even it taste, it lacks any resemblance. 3/5 for the beer as it is, since I like to score how much I personally enjoy it, but scoring this 2.5 for it's idiotic name. And all those who are pro rating in style, as a geuze, this would get 0.5/5 ( unless i can go lower )

Utterly clear copper-gold beer under a remarkably regular, stable white head. Spices, herbs, tad pharmaceutical smell. Bit fruity flavour, grainy - but the fruit could be anything. Blood orange - not found. Finish is sweet(ish). Light, dead, lightly slick. Substandard. Crystalstick or slapstick? Even the colour doesn't match blood orange in lightyears.

Rhubarb-flavoured witbier, tasted at Pajot Ale Land festival. Snow white, frothy, mousy, stable, cobweb-lacing head, clear 'old gold' colour. Aroma of indeed noticeable sweet-and-sour rhubarb embedded in white bread dough, apple peel, banana, birdseed, raw cauliflower, coriander seed, dried orange peel. Fruity onset, halfripe banana and red apple, fizzy carbonation, slick wheaty and cereally malt sweetish body with a clear, very recognizable sourish rhubarb effect running throughout, bit sweetish in the end but providing a refreshingly sour effect as well, matching well with a light citric note from the added curaçao - while the coriander seed remains subtle. Sweet and sourish aftertaste, clean and fresh. Rhubarb wheat beer indeed, bit straightforward and simplistic perhaps, but original, refreshing and well-executed.
