Oct. ’14. Thanks Marko for sharing another Rwandan beer (and kajser27 for bringing them to Croatia at the first place!) A 0.33 l bottle that poured clear reddish brown body with medium sized head. Weak, lightly sourish vinous aroma, grainy and a bit sugary. Flavor was similarly weak, only some caramel, cornflakes and cardboard later on. Watery and thin in body. Some nut-like note was caught up in the aftertaste, besides these things already mentioned in the flavor. Also, alcohol was more pronounced towards the end. Boring and bad.

Yellow colored, weak white head. Aroma of malt, grain, metal and cardboard. Taste is sweet malt, grains, some adjuncts, no bitterness, metallic finish. Thin, watery body.

Dark ruby, pale beige medium head. Aroma is of caramel coloring, green apple and metal. Taste similar, caramel, green apples, metal, artificial. Somewhat bitter finish. Thin, light bodied. It’s actually a stronger, colored Primus. Don’t worry it’s got nothing to do with an ale. But hey, a jumping lion and a TURBO King... that’s gotta be worth something!

Pale golden, low white head which quickly dissipates to a white ring. Aroma is malty, low on grains and metallic. Taste again malts, grains, metallic and some low breadiness in the finish. Low but noticeable earthy hoppy bitterness. Hops? In Africa!? Light to medium bodied. Much better than anything else Rwanda has to offer. Also draught leaves a better impression than the bottled versions.

Again, huge, enormous thanks to Bojan (kajser27) for bringing this from Rwanda. Shared with heavy. Poured a dark amber-brown body, a bit more pale than Virunga MIst was. The lasting, slightly off white head is an improvement though. Again, the strange aroma, sorta reminiscent of white wine shows up, but this time, with nothing to back it up with. The taste is even more empty, extremely so. Nothing really off but no redeeming qualities either. Carbonation bite and one or two oh so tiny splashes of caramel show up. Tastes nothing like an ale, or a dark beer. Just bad. Still, damn thrilled I tried a Rwandan beer!

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Alexey. Clear caramel amber color with a small beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, a bit of cardboard, a bit of vegetables and light fruitiness. Sweetish flavor with some malt, caramel and a slightly bitterish finish with a bit of alcohol. Light-bodied.
