On tap. Pours a clear gold with an amber hue and a white head that starts at the edges and dissipates completely. Aroma has a good amount of earthy citrus with light grain and grass backing. Flavor is more grassy with some sweet grains and a strong biscuit backbone.

Can. A- Black coffee, roasty. A- Black color, black liquid, tan head. T- Strong black coffee, cocoa, roasted, malty, slightly bitter, alcohol. P- Full body, average texture, soft carbonation, roasty finish. O- If you like coffee, this is your beer. The aroma smells like a fresh cup of joe, and the color the same. It’s really a thing of beauty. The taste is straight coffee, although you can detect the alcohol a little bit as well as a lingering bitterness that I am not particularly a fan of but at the same time doesn’t make this beer any less of a great brew. I was expecting a decent beer, but this turned out to be a surprisingly great beer.

Aroma: The nose is roast and pine, with a good amount of coffee/chocolate
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a tan head and some fairly heavy lace
Flavor: The flavor is much the same, coffee/chocolate, light sweet, with clean pine bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, clean and smooth, with a lasting, dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a pretty tasty, well balanced Black IPA. Enjoyable stuff. Well made. Plenty drinkable. I have no complaints, this is a nice example of the style.

Growler thanks to Russell. Pours a cloudy amber with small frothy white head. The aroma is strong oak, yeast, lacto, wood. Thin mouthfeel with nice oak, cherry skin, and light dry finish. Good.

Can. A chillhazed, golden beer with a dense, off-white head of moderate size. The aroma is quite grainy, with some grassy, peppery hops and a little touch of white bread. It’ dry and crisp on the palate, with a quite high, but pleasant level of carbonation. Medium body. Bitterness, pale malts, white bread notes, grassy, peppery hops and a touch of hay in the flavor. Lasting finish with fruityness and a little malty touch, as well as some bitterness. Lacks a little bit on the bitterness in the finish I think. In the very end some metallic notes show up. A quenching and pretty decent one, but the metallic touch is slighlty annoying. 140516

12 oz can purchased at Jack’s Discount Liquor located in Lenexa, Kansas. No date on the can, though presumably this is from last fall. The pour is a mostly clear golden copper with a 1 ½ inch light tan head. Nice retention. The aroma is toasted cracker malt, grass spiciness and a bit of floral sweetness. The taste is the cracker malt along with sweetness, which is more caramel than floral in the taste. Hint of cardboard oxidation. The grass character comes out in the longish finish. The palate is light to medium bodied with active carbonation and the grass aftertaste. Decent, even with the age.

Bottle. A- Malty, hoppy. A- Copper color, clear liquid, white head. T- Balanced, slightly bitter, malty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, crisp finish. O- I was surprised with how mild this was. Not that bitter at all and almost reminded me more of a lager of Pilsner. Overall, if was a pretty average beer.

Pour is a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma is mild hops with a sweet caramel malt backbone. Flavor is more of the caramel malts with a decent underlying hop. Hops are there but the strong malt presence kinda overrides the hoppy goodness. Santa Fe beers are all ok but just need a little more oomph.

Pour is a clear-hazy blonde with a large white head. Aroma is some cracker malt. Flavor is a decent bready cracker malt with a decent saaz hop. Not as dry as some but this is a decent beer

Pour is a dark brown with a huge tan head. Aroma is a nice caramel malt with a decent hoppy backbone and some earthy tannins. Flavor is a decent malt with a bit of dark fruit and some sweetness to hide the alcohol. The problem is its a bit thin around the edges. The hops from the aroma are gone which just leaves this a hint sweet malt bomb with a little plastic taste toward the end. I’ve had better.
