Can from Barcelona. Clear golden. Caramel dusty sweetness. Front heavy, fizzy sticky, soapy, followed by a strong artificial sweetness. Reminds me of dishwasher soap, if it came as gummibears dishwasher soap.

Can from Carrefour Las Ramblas. Clear golden, unstable low head, big bubbles. Pancake aroma, including light butter, sticky sirup on the palate as well, grain, hay, macro balance, caramel aftertaste.

Standard pale lager from the Carrefour supermarket chain - apparently, at least that is what the can cryptically states, brewed for them in Utrecht, namely by that obscure H-West company which is not a 'physical' brewery in itself; so the question remains where this was actually brewed, I do hope someone can find out which brewery is responsible for this brand - in itself very likely an alias of something else, which is again difficult to define, as both fake-German brand names "Saer Bräu" and "Kalinsbourg" were invented for Carrefour only. Anyway: medium thick, frothy, snow white, busily and beautifully cobweb-lacing, bubbly but stable head, slowly dissolving in the middle over a crystal clear (filtered) metallic pure golden beer with 'old golden' tinge, the latter probably coming from that added industrial caramel, which on an already dreary ingredients list is the one component that bothers (and worries) me the most. Terrifying aroma of indeed artificial caramel (and I very rarely had this element dominating over the rest even in this hopeless category!), iron pipes (very strong and very clearly demonstrated by the 'hand test') or even lead pipes, rusty iron, the lowest quality 'bread' imaginable - or rather the cereals I would not even feed to my ducks, cotton cloth, pure iron coming back over and over again, hard plastic, the water from a can of corn, rubber band, industrial soap. Neutral onset, sweetish with an annoying sourish undertone, utterly bland, lively carbonation - in a noticeably artificial way, like in bottled sparkling water; very slick body. The middle phase adds nothing new except the true, horrifying nature of this beer: the glucose syrup and - worse even - the added industrial caramel (as a colouring agent, mind you!), both adding unwanted sweetishness and slickness. Hops, limited to a drop of extract as usual in this kind of 'beers', are nothing more than a very vague background moment of bitterishness drowning immediately in the emptiness, artificialness and downright dreariness of this 'budget' supermarket lager. This is below par even in its own dismal category, relying on industrial caramel to gain a shade of colour. This may work in France commercially but nobody in Belgium at least goes to a Carrefour supermarket for a budget 'pils' - fetch Cara Pils at Colruyt instead (never thought I would admit this). This is on a very sad level even below Jupiler - already very sad itself. I was expecting just a bit more (not much of course) so point off for miraculously managing to disappoint me in spite of my very low expectations. Avoid.

500ml can from Carrefour Express in Brugge, Belgium. Pours a clear pale gold color with a white head and good retention. Decent lacing. Light bready malt aroma. The taste follows the nose: Light bready malt flavor throughout. Tastes more like a Helles than a blonde ale in my opinion. Smooth and clean. Medium-light body and medium-light carbonation. Not bitter. A nice light beer.

330ml can from Carrefour Express in Madrid, Spain. Pours a crystal clear gold color with a bright white head and very good retention. Fair, scattered lacing. Lots of streaming bubbles. Light pale malt aroma. Basic pale lager flavor with some very minor chemical notes in the finish. Nothing "Especial," but acceptable flavor at an excellent price. Light body. Lighter than expected carbonation. Low bitterness.

330ml can from Carrefour Express in Madrid, Spain. Pours a crystal clear gold color with a small white head and decent retention. Almost no lacing. Standard pale lager aroma. Basic macro lager flavor with less carbonation than a typical macro lager, and a little diacetyl in the finish. Clean, smooth, and lightly sweet. Nothing special, but very drinkable for a $0.37 per can supermarket brand. Medium body. Medium-light carbonation. Not bitter.

330ml can from Carrefour Express in Madrid, Spain. Pours a crystal clear deep gold color with an off-white head and great retention. Very good lacing too. Pretty pour. Standard pale malt aroma. It tastes like a mix of pale lager and malt liquor, with a lightly boozy finish. Not a lot of flavor, yet no off notes either. The 6.8% ABV is somewhat hidden. Grainy texture. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Not bitter. Not great, but not bad for a store brand at a great price.

amber, brown, light brown to amber head.
citrussy aroma like if it was infected. sour malts. bottle 09/09/2026 , tasted 28/12/2025 kept cold since i returned from malaga dec. 11.
flavor is more sort of fruity than decidedly sour. tastes like a fruit infused ale, quite hard/crisp water treatment, the fruitiness might resemble a belgian quad, but there is no yeasty notes whatsoever, so that's unusual. After being confused by the aroma and the flavor, i have settled to a place where i find the flavor okay to good, but highly unusual.
