I should have saved this for the Pgh tasting, I don’t like it because its too strong and this is exactly what they like, Yahie. Good looking from a bomber. Strong medicine high alky tast. More like a stronger scottish of scotch ale. Yes some leather int there. Each slug yeilds this malty alky thing. Finish is just that, there you go.

Great, slightly hazy copper coloured body with a super thick, eight centimetre tall tan head - a bit too much carbonation in this one! Aroma of light grass, herbal notes, pine and a touch of pineapple - some malt as well. Medium-bodied; Metallic flavour at first with a herbal, earthy grassy malt and hop characteristic then showing some alcohol and bitterness at the end. Aftertaste shows more alcohol, malt and earth than the style usually has, and perhaps quite a bit less hops than usual as well - especially for a West Coast IPA. Overall, an interesting take (more earthy/malty) on an IPA, but not a great one considering the options on the West Coast. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from BevMo in San Francisco (Geary Blvd), California on 14-January-2012 for US$6.99 sampled at home in Washington on 07-March-2012.

22oz bomber pours clear gold with copper core and near white head. The first whiff of aroma was very nice with bold and slightly malt sweetened grapefruit and tangelo type citrusy hops. Wow wow. As it warmed I start to pick up a slight off note that seems to be in tired yeast buttery arena but sometimes maybe not. The taste is straight up bold citrusy goodness that borders on harsh and boozy but doesn’t actually get there. I get loads of citrus hop bitterness nicely rimmed by malt sweetened citrus hop flavor. Midway and into the finish the hops get more bitter to the point of being a little resiny with a nice pine hop like sap note and it also picks up a touch of booziness too. The only problem is a faint yet nagging almost fruit estery sweetness in the background that may or may not actually be diacetyl. I don’t know. This is a great try at the style as it hits it dead on in its big hops, bitter hops and resiny bitter harshness mixed with some booze, that is dead on IIPA. Nice job.

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours light copper with a near white head. Aroma of floral/citrus hop over mild caramel. Med body. Flavor is citrus/foral over light caramel. This is indeed a lightish IPA, but it has all the hop flavor. Finishing much more bitter than suggested by 38 IBU. Sessionable it is!

Aroma of citrus and lots of fruit. With single-hop Citra, i always get a bit of a dank, catty, earthiness that is here on this one as well -- detracts from the overall beer in my opinion and i have never loved a single-Citra. Beautiful clear copper with a white head of over an inch that lingers throughout. Taste is very bitter with fruit again showing and a crisp bitter finish. Mouthfeel is a little resiny and maybe slightly thin for the style. The malt is not pronounced until well after the beer has been finished. I get some pine on the end as well.
