Bottle sent by Highland for review. The beer pours a slightly different color than most IPAs; more brass to it while others are gold or slightly orange. The head is fizzy and dwindles quickly. The hops give this a complex nose, something like grapefruit and tobacco leaf, with just a touch of pine. The taste is light on the malt, but I do think I get a bit of spice from the wheat, or it’s melding with the hop bitterness. And the bitter is foremost in the hops here, but not overloaded. The overall effect is a crisp beer that’s not overly filling. The grepefruit impression returns midway through, though there’s also a very hint of pizza dough. Not enough to suggest leftover yeast, but just another part of the way it’s meant to taste.

Kroger bottle. This one better be good. I’m irritable and could go for a good beer today. Aroma is meh. Light citrus, malt. Flavor is also meh. Very light, watery citrus, honey, roasted malt. Boring.

Kroger bottle. Pours golden with an offwhite head. Nice aroma of grapefruit and possibly pine. Flavor is smooth juicy grapefruit and lots of pine. Minor licorice finish. Tasty.

Draft at Duckworth’s, staff recommendation. Dark brown color. Aroma of dark milk chocolate. Taste is chocolate and coffee. Not really sweet, not really earthy either.

Pour is a almost near black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and a nice bakers chcocolate. Flavor is sweeter with more of a milk chocolate with some coffee bitterness. Finish leaves a sticky chocolate on the tongue. A bit thin for a Impy stout but this was still flavorful with plenty of roast and chocolate.

Fairly weak pale, missing much of the sticky, Pacific Northwest Cascade hop loveliness they crow about on the label. Starts almost like a straight golden ale, apple esters and bright, biscuity malt adding a fruity, bread-n-butter front, only to see a mild floral bitterness round out the middle. Finishes dull, the hops adding a touch of piney bitterness but mainly rounding out a middlin’ beer. Texture’s a bit light, nose leans towards bready malt. Makes me appreciate Sierra Nevada Pale Ale all the more.

Clear mahogany pour with a khaki head and good retention. Smooth, dark, lightly roasted caramel malt flavor. Good lacing. Minimal spice taste and a little dark fruit. Tastes like a doppelbock light. I could do without the dark fruit.

Very fresh 9 day old bottle > stemless wine glass. A: Pours pale clear orange gold with a short short-lived head. Very little visible carbonation but some patchy lacing left. S: Caramel, spruce, faint citrus and pine. T: Interesting flavors of stone fruit, cherry and tart orange citrus. Pith is there but subtle. Mild pine at the back. Hoppy but not overly bitter. M: Light, crisp, clean, refreshing. High drinkability. O: Not bad. Nice distinctive flavor sets it slightly apart from the norm. Should be widely available and well priced so I can recommend at least a try.
