Description
Highland Brewing was founded in 1994 by retired engineer and entrepreneur Oscar Wong, establishing it as the pioneer of Asheville, NC’s booming craft beer industry. With a portfolio that is equal parts established and inventive, Highland is known for consistently excellent beer. Proudly regional, Highland is distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky. Highland is the largest independent family-owned brewery born in the Southeast, with the third largest solar array in an American craft brewery. The brewery is in a rehabilitated manufacturing facility on a hilltop, affording space for thousands of visitors to enjoy limited release beers, tours, and live music. In addition, the event center and rooftop can be reserved for private events. Since 2015, the company has been led by Wong’s daughter, Leah Wong Ashburn, and has 50 full-time employees.

Cocoa and nuts and toasted bread up against a very string Perle bitterness, perhaps a little too strong as it lingers on the back end. Not bad but could use a little more subtlety.

On the sweeter side for the style, with a vanilla-and-honey-tinged middle offset by a gentle floral bitterness and a touch of yeast and citrus. Not bad.

Not bad, with a hearty punch of grapefruit, peach, lemon zest, and a hint of bubblegum, followed by a slight pine bitterness on the back end.

Opaque yellow with a funky lime aroma. Nice flavor of sour acid, lime and salt. Tastes very similar to a margarita.

Brown color, thick head with lasting lacing. Earthy and woody aroma. Nice easy drinking dark lager. Light notes of chocolate, mild sweetness. A little heavier body than a regular lager, smooth and crisp finish.

Pale yellow with thin lasting head. Evergreen and grapefruit peel aroma. Typical west coast ipa taste. Hoppy bitterness with a little malt sweetness underneath. Lasting hop bitter aftertaste. Good example of the style.
