Description
Highland Brewing was founded in 1994 by retired engineer and entrepreneur Oscar Wong, establishing it as the pioneer of Asheville, NC’s booming craft beer industry. With a portfolio that is equal parts established and inventive, Highland is known for consistently excellent beer. Proudly regional, Highland is distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky. Highland is the largest independent family-owned brewery born in the Southeast, with the third largest solar array in an American craft brewery. The brewery is in a rehabilitated manufacturing facility on a hilltop, affording space for thousands of visitors to enjoy limited release beers, tours, and live music. In addition, the event center and rooftop can be reserved for private events. Since 2015, the company has been led by Wong’s daughter, Leah Wong Ashburn, and has 50 full-time employees.

Bottled, thanks SpringsLicker! Transparently black, lasting head. Grapefruit aroma. Dry and very aromatic with soft mouthfeel. The finish is really salty with good bitterness.

Bottled, thanks SpringsLicker! Copper colour, rich head. Medium dry and lightly raisiny. It is fairly light bodied with average bitterness with a touch of ashiness.

St. Tereses has a pale amber color witha large clingy off white head. Nice grapefruit hops in the aroma. A light balance of malt and hops continues in the flavor and carries all the way to the end of the long dry finish.

This Coppery red beer supports a large off white head that gives off a bready aroma. Lightly malty with a short finish. Mine didn’t have the hops characteristics the other raters have noted; it sould have used a touch more.

Rich creamy long lasting head on an almost opaque black beer. Strong light reveals rich red highlights. Smoky maltiness in the aroma which is deep and soft. Rich chocolatey , malt flavor. Very well done Porter.

Hazy dark brown body with a nice thick dark tan head. Aroma full of coffee and chocolate with roasted malt of course being strong. Medium to Full-bodied; Slightly sour milk flavours with the bitter chocolate/coffee tastes present. Aftertaste has some roasted qualities as well as some sugars. Overall, a great beer to try and another winner from Highland! I got this twelve ounce bottle from Phil (haddon90) in Knoxville, Tennessee...thanks again Phil!

Slightly cloudy orange/amber colour with a nice sized slightly off-white head. Aroma of pine cones and a very strong grapefruity hop...very pleasant! Medium-bodied; Initial piney flavour with a slight citrus background. A bit of malt missing, but overall not too out of balance. Aftertaste shows some slight hop bitterness, but fairly clean compared to the taste. Overall, a pretty good American Pale, better than average and definately worth trying! I was lucky enough to get this beer in an in-person trade with Suttree in Knoxville, Tennessee and sampled it on 3-October-2003, Thanks Phil!

Acquired via trade. My favorite of the Highland brews (so far). Pours a very dark brown with a medium and pretty tan head. Little lacing. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and nuts. Medium bodied with a nice roasty blend of chocolate and espresso (which would be a mocha I guess). Finish is a little nutty and a little hoppy. Pretty good.

Acquired via trade. This was pretty good, deserving of this brewery's "flagship beer" status. Pours a deep amber color with a medium and foamy light tan head. Aroma of malt and caramel. Medium-bodied with an assertive malt flavor and a touch of hops. Finish is sweet but not overly so. Not bad at all.

Acquired via trade. Pours a dark gold color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is pleasantly hoppy. However the hops are more timid in the flavor, and the malt rounds it down even more making for a rather subdued beer. Finish is dry and crisp. Just okay.
