Description
In 1872, Jules Vanneste bought the ‘t Hamerken distillery. In 1889, he took the step of definitively converting the distillery into a brewery. Soon, ‘t Hamerken top-fermentation beers became a household name in the Bruges area. Brewing continued till 1982.

In 1983, Paul Vanneste (great-grandson of the founder) founded the new De Gouden Boom brewery in collaboration with Frank Boon Brewery from Lembeek. In 1985 Brouwerij De Gouden Boom is granted a licence to brew the STEENBRUGGE abbey beers.

On 16 November 2001, PALM brewery acquired a majority interest in Brouwerij De Gouden Boom and in 2003 it was completely taken over by Palm Brewery. In the same year the Prior of St Peter’s Abbey in Steenbrugge licensed PALM Breweries to brew STEENBRUGGE abbey beers.

Since 2004 production of Bruges beers has been relocated to the PALM Breweries site in Steenhuffel.

From tap. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is pine and slight herbal. Phenolic and herbal. Bitter, dry and slight herbal. Spiced and dry finish.

Tap 20cl. @bier museum Brugge. Slightly unclear medium golden colour, good frothy white head, good retention and lacing. Aroma pale malts, fruity, bubblegum, yeast. Taste medium sweet and slightly bitter, malty, fruity (pineapple, light banana, peach), good duration, mild sweetbitter finish, spicy notes, medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation; very nice blond.

Tap 20cl. @bier museum Brugge. Clear medium golden colour, good frothy white head, good retention and lacing. Aroma grain, yeast, light banana, coriander, ginger, herbs. Taste medium sweet and bitter, grainy, coriander, quite herbal, good duration, sweetbitter and spicy finish. Medium body, watery to oily texture, average carbonation, nice fresh atypical tripel.

Donkergeel bier met schuim. Smaak is licht bitter hoppig ietwat friszuur, echter nogal waterig en licht. Standaard bier.

savoured at Bab 2016, thnx for sharing, everyone ! Pours clear blonde, good white head. Smell is sweet, herbal, spiced. Taste is sharp, spices, mild bitterness. Sweet.

Troebel lichtgeel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is licht zoetzuur met iets van vanille, verder vrij waterig. Valt erg tegen.

06/02/2016 – sample @ BAB shared with tderoeck, 77ships and kradel Clear blonde with just a small white lacing. Thin, light spices, sweetness. Pfff I didn’t get it at all with this one. Weak

Sampled draft @ Bierfestival Brugge 2016. Thank you for sharing! Near clear orange with an off-white head. Nose is weird metallic grassy herbal soapy spices, anise, real excess of spices which I cannot pinpoint. Nose is heavy sweet soap, umami, anise, herbal, ginger, ginseng, coriander, fizzy, metallic,…. A real excess of spices, which I cannot pinpoint. This is like drinking a spice rack. Body is a bit watery & metallic. Very odd at first but I did get into it, gets some using too, excessive but interesting brew. Odd but interesting. Interesting excess of spices.
