Aus der Flasche im 2026-01 getrunken. Ein typisches Barley Wine mit leichter Getreide-Note, Karamell, etwas dunkle Beeren und eine feine Hopfennote. Die Ähnlichkeit mit dem DeMolen Klasiker Bommen & Granaten ist schon deutlich. Dieses hier ist aber noch jung und frisch. Denn zur Zeit ist es noch etwas hopfenbetont. Ich hoffe das eine leichte Süße sich später durch eine längere Lagerung wie beim Bommen & Granaten einstellt. Es bleibt aber das es jetzt schon ein tolles Bier ist.

A black beer with a tan head. Aroma of strong roasted dark malt, coffee and some fruits. Taste of mid sweet strong roasted dark malt, chocolate, coffee, liquorice, fruits, sticky finish.

0.33 l bottle from 'SpeciaalBierPakket.nl', best before September 2030. Almost clear, very dark ruby, barely any head. Intensely sweetish-malty, gently fruity aroma of molasses, dark honey, chestnut, whisky, vanilla, raisins and prunes. Rather sweet, malty, moderately bitter, gently boozy, slightly fruity taste of molasses, sherry, whisky, vanilla, chestnut, raisins, prunes, dark honey, dates, some chocolate and traces of licorice root, followed by a long, moderately bitter, gently boozy finish. Full body, oily mouthfeel, flat. Lovely Barley Wine, very complex and intense, maybe a tad too boozy.

Fles gedeeld. Schenkt pikzwart met een bruine kraag. Geur van turf, gerookte mout. In de mond ook wat zoet, en is er een vleugje kaneel? Smaak is zoetig tot zoet, met rook en turf. Zachte koolzuurprikkeling. Medium body. Erg lekker, zoals in die goeie ouwe Molen-tijd.

Blik thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een troebel oranje geel bier met een volle beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van sinaasappelschil en hop. De smaak is vol fruitig, zacht zoet en vol grapefruit bitter.

0.33 l bottle from 'SpeciaalBierPakket.nl', bottled in October 2025. Pitch black with a thin, dense, slowly diminishing, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, rather smoky-medicinal, roasty and slightly fruity aroma of peat, iodine, hard roasted coffee, ink, dark chocolate, bourbon and traces of vanilla. Fairly sweet, malty, rather roasty-bitter, very smoky-medicinal and slightly fruity taste of dark chocolate, hard roasted coffee, licorice, ink, peat, iodine, fruity bourbon and hints of vanilla, followed by a long, quite roasty-bitter, a bit salty and a little boozy finish. Full body, smooth and slightly oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Very rich, intense and saturating brew, high complexity, superb balance and mouthfeel. I'd almost say classic De Molen stuff, absolutely top notch, right up my alley.
