Description
Co-Founder and CEO Andy first found the building that spawned Powder Monkey Brewing in 2019. An Historic Naval Gunpowder Store in Priddy's Hard, Gosport, it had remained empty and partially derelict for over fifty years.
Despite its shocking state, the vision was born, and the work began on planning the brewery and developing the brand. The name Powder Monkey relates to the boys who carried the gunpowder to the guns on board ships.
Having recruited Mark, our Head Brewer to the team, Andy & Mark spent many hours planning the working side of the brewery, specifying the equipment and ensuring it was as efficient and productive as possible.
Roll forward to July 2021 and the new facility was up and running and the first beers brewed. The brewery building contains the production facility as well as a visitor centre, shop and tasting bar.

Panda at home, thanks to Graham Grumbo, 21/12/23. Lighter shade of black with a good sized lasting tan head. Nose is coffee bean, charr, spice, dark malts, chocolate, mellow roast. Taste comprises chocolate, nutty, coffee grinds, charr, toffee, mellow roast. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough coffee forward stout ... shame its a touch over-carbed.

9/12/2023. Can from Darren, cheers. Shared at EBGPQF. Pours clear amber with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma is malty, toffee, biscuit, caramel, fruits. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness and body. Average carbonation. Nice bittersweet finish. Not bad.

440ml can from Sandy Balls Holiday Village farm shop. Drunk at home. Pours pitch black, no head or lacing. A mixed bag of artificially sweet elements. No chocolate or cherry notes that would warrant the black forest gateaux tag. Syrupy mouthfeel. Becomes very unappealing way before the end.

440ml can from Sandy Balls Holiday Village farm shop, New Forest. Pours an unclear glowing gold, foamy snow bank white head. Aroma of orange resin. Taste follows on, sweet caramel boiled orange sweet, crystal malt, bitter edge.. seems a bit harsh and tough going at times.

Keg at Awakening 23. Aroma has light grains and lighter fruit. Hazy pale orange. Thick foamy white head. Medium-heavy bitter. Sour edge. Woody. Quinine. Citrus. Gooseberry. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long extremely dry and astringent finish. An English Pale Ale by virtue of of the hops but otherwise a modern bitter sour edged Pale.

Half-pint, draught at Powder Monkey Taphouse. Shared with Finn. Patchy surface over an almost clear golden body, rings of lace down the glass. Moderate smell of dusty hops added by a scent of citrus. Balanced taste of grass, pale malts, and a backdrop of dried fruits. Drying, slightly, bitter close. Satisfying (Gosport 19.10.2022).

Half-pint, draught at Powder Monkey Taphouse. Shared with Finn. Big white tophead, pale golden body with a haze of wheat, rings of lace down the glass. Inviting wheat fruity aromas, mid-sweet. Quite similar flavours of fruity wheat, banana yeast and mild spices. Mid-sweet wheat fruity ending. Soft on the swallow. Quite alright. (Gosport 19.10.2022).
