On tap at The Barley Merchant, pours a clear bright rose red with a small white head. Aroma is estery, with floral notes, some gentle berries, and a touch of grape skins. Flavour is incompetent, with lots of estery notes, fermented out cotton candy, and light grape skins. This is messy and uncoordinated. Crappy.

This doesn’t look good. It’s bright amber with no head…a flat IPA is not my thing. On the palate, it’s chewy, bitter, some orangey hop but the whole thing is whatever. It exists, does the 90s IPA thing but in a who gives a shit kind of way.

Opaque, no head, somewhat dull yellow. Light wheaty acidity, floral coriander, medium body. I prefer the sweeter, fluffier take on this style or a straight up coriander bomb. This is a less yeasty variant on Blanche de Chambly. I’d score it better in a competition than for my own RB ticking.

Hazy and quite pale, with a thick head. The Belgian yeast is quite estery here, the malts a touch underattenuated, the hop expression a jumbled mess. This doesn’t come together, it really doesn’t.

5oz pour at brewery. Pours cloudy light gold with white head. Aroma is very light, some resin and malts. Flavour has light resin and pale malts. Decent carbonation. Not much here.

5oz pour at brewery. Pours with with tan head. Aroma has strong roasted malt. Flavour has a great roasted malt profile, some sharp pine backing it up. Not the most expressive black IPA, but still very enjoyable.

5oz pour at brewery. Pours murky yellow orange with white head. Aroma has melok juice and rind. Flavour has melon, light stonefeuit, slightly sour. Really not a whole lot going on.

5oz pour at brewery. Pours murky yellow with white head. Aroma has esters, spicy saison yeast, bandaids. Flavour is full of esters and some plastic off-flavours. This is an estery mess, unfortunately.

473mL can, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a large beige head. Nose is very restrained, with soft, earthy, slightly piney hop character, very gentle roast, and soft bready malt. Flavour is more robust than the nose suggested, with plenty of bitter piney hops that combine well with a softer roasted malt backbone. Very soft roast but it works well enough; and there's a nice residual bitterness to the hops. More timid than a top-tier black IPA, but I'm just happy to see this style brewed in this day and age.
