Description
Situated just off the West coast of Scotland the Isle of Arran is arguably one of the most beautiful and dramatic islands in Europe. The splendour and diversity of the landscape has led it to be considered by many as Scotland in miniature. Nestled between the islands largest mountain, Goatfell, and the imposing Brodick Castle lies Arran Brewery which has been brewing award winning craft beer for over two decades.

Opened in late March 2000. The 20BBL plant originated at the Tipsy Toad Townhouse.

Bottle share at Mr Smith’s Stratoflat. Thanks to Scopey. Almost clear dark red -brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy with fine carbonation. Mild dark malts, modest tang and cream. Hops are mild pine and mild marmalade. Very light bitterness on the semi dry finish. Decent if very light CDA.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Scoopey. Pours reddish-brown with a frothy tan head. The aroma holds toasted pine, burnt toast, faint cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with burnt pine, leather, baking cocoa, earth. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry and bitter on the finish, with some minerals, earth, dusty cocoa, roast. Not bad.

Bottle shared at Leighton’s. It pours deep brown with a thick, foamy light tan head. The nose is soft, juicy, fruity, bramble, raspberry candy, some roast and varnish. The taste is bitter, ashy, grapefruit, varnish, charred wood, earthy roast, light soap and pepper with a dry, charged finish. Medium body, foamy carbonation and chewy mouth-feel. A bit chewy perhaps, but not bad.

Bottle from the Arran Brewery. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate, orange and pine. Taste - chocolate, roast and orange. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - got the stout bit but the ipa was missing.

Bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours opaque fall brown with a massive beige head. Seems a tad over-carbonated. Aromas of pine, wood, menthol, orange at the back. Taste is fruity, sweet, roast. Light sweet, coffee, then soapy finish. Not a black ipa as far as I’m concerned.
