Description
Situated just off the West coast of Scotland the Isle of Arran is arguably one of the most beautiful and dramatic islands in Europe. The splendour and diversity of the landscape has led it to be considered by many as Scotland in miniature. Nestled between the islands largest mountain, Goatfell, and the imposing Brodick Castle lies Arran Brewery which has been brewing award winning craft beer for over two decades.

Opened in late March 2000. The 20BBL plant originated at the Tipsy Toad Townhouse.

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - amber with a nice head. Nose - oats, honey, maybe even toffee. Maybe some nuts too. Taste - confirmed as above kinda like Hobnobs. Palate - close to medium bodied with creamy sweet texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - it’s not necessarily guid but it is decent.

Bottle from Aldi and drunk at home. Clear amber colour lasting thin beige head. Touch of malty sweetness and fruit on the aroma. Then a spicy malty flavour in the mouth. Faint hop on the finish. OK, drinkable enough.

Some roasted malts in the aroma. Flavour is not particularly intense but there’s slightly smokey, dark roasted malt taste in the finish.

500ml bottle: BBE Apr 15. Poured at home during a ’random tasting session’ with myself on 10th Jan 15. Clear amber body, a little light but amber it was, on top a full foam blanket of tight white bubbles. Floral hop nose and taste with some half hidden malty fruitiness in both also. Hops do control the aroma and taste, but the malt content prevents the beer becoming too bitter, dry or hopish in nature. Nice blend of flavours: might have liked more of an alcohol punch though.
