Binny’s LP 500ml ($7.50): Pours a cloud yellow with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma seems to be almost skunky at first, but then I realized that it was the sourness and the smokiness interacting. After a few more whiffs I was able to differentiate the smells and it made a lot more sense. I will start with the one thing that I don’t like: this beer does not have enough body. It is a tad watery. The flavours could have been magnified just a bit and things would have been great. There is a subtle sourness and an even more subtle smokiness. A surprising amount of hop taste is there. Beers like this serve to remind us that the newfound experimentalism of craft beer has some off-the-wall predecessors.

Chevy Chase, DC 500ml ($8): Pours a brownish cloud yellow with a minimal white head. Aroma is of sour ale. Taste is subtle, and just a bit sour and the sourness subsequently makes its way to to the aftertaste, where there is also a note of bread or something. Less fruity than I expected. Very light bodied, but never watery. Really, this beer strikes something of a perfect balance. This is, however, extremely refreshing and absurdly drinkable. If they sold six packs of this I could, and would, finish the whole thing in an hour (all my favorite beers are just hella expensive).

Bottle. Gentian aroma tends to dominate but ginger. bay leaf and rosemary apparent. Hazy pale yellow color with moderate head and moderate effervescence. Light malt flavor with spices much more subdued (thankfully as I’m not a huge gentian fan). Interesting - would have made life more tolerable despite being covered in shit.

16.9 oz bottle into a Trappist glass (sorry, don’t have a bowl). Pours a hazy pale pale yellow with a quickly dissipating small white head. Smells nice and pungently funky, old books. Taste is mostly sour with a hint of sweetness. Finishes dry. Highly carbonated with a light body. It’s good.

Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy pale yellow color with an enormous foamy white head that lingered and left minimal lacing. The aroma was tart, citric and lactic. The flavor was tart lemon and a bit dry with a touch of must and a lactic presence that pervaded. Long tart citric and lactic finish. Light to medium body but overcarbonated. Solid.

/11/12/10/11/11

500 mL bottle. Pours golden with a haze, lots of medium chunks, and a rapidly-vanishing white head. Aroma is dominated by ginger. Ginger is the largest component of the flavor as well, with greener herbal flavors, perhaps the rosemary, and wheat. Bit of a tart flavor. Pretty tasty, I think.
