@ Devil’s Elbow. Amber and hazy. Has the usual sort of caramelly, almost buttery character I associate with many Howe Sound brews. Vague hop on the nose. Light hop bitterness, hints of citrus, leaning towards diacetyl again.

Strong licorice nose. Mahogany, medium tan head. Licorice on the front and back end. Charcoal at midpalate and beyond. Chewy medium to full body. I like it, but I love licorice and anise. Warning: don’t drink it prior to romancing your partner. Both licorice and beer are libido inhibitors.

Tap at Mission Dolores, Brooklyn. Amber color, good white head, lace. Fruity, even berryish aroma. Medium-bodied. Flavor has quite amount of warming alcohol, piney bitterness. Highlight of this beer is in the aftertaste which is long and grapefruity.

Draft - Dark roast and some campfire smoke. Deep maroon with a nice light brown head. Lots of toast and smoke, sweet and nice but no real bourbon notes nor much chocolate.

On tap at Devils Elbow. Pours a dark brown with full head. Light aromas of vanilla, bourbon, and chocolatey malts. Flavors carry same but are richer, including more dry chocolate and roasted malts. Dry finish. Very nice bourbon barrel integration adding complexity and vanilla without overpowering. One of the best Howe Sound beers I’ve had in a while.

On cask at the Railway Club, pours a hazy golden orange with a tiny head. Nose brings out grapefruit and light citrusy hops. Flavour is along the same lines, thankfully with little of the usual mineraly notes in ISAs. Not the most interesting one, but acceptable.

Bottle from Redstone. Big caramel maltiness, earthy and light citrus hop barely cuts through the malt sweetness. English inspired I assume, decent drinker.

Sweet, bland, pale stuff. I guess they sell it but I can’t imagine why. It’s certainly nothing close to a dortmunder - not even a bad one.
