Cask @ Rattle n Hum, served in an imperial pint glass. The beer presents with a glowing clear light brown color. Atop of that sits a nice thick white head with a sticky lacing. The aroma is a mix of watery tea from the malts and juicy hops, not too strong and similar to fruit punch (think Hawaiian Punch). The flavor, on the hand hand, is more aggressive in its hoppiness with more bitterness coming through. I do not detect and spiciness of toast from the rye but just a tea like maltiness. The best part of this beer come from the cask, which is actually served at the proper cask temperature. This also allows for an undercarbonated mouthfeel, which makes for a velvet like feel on the cheeks. Similarly, the head produced is pretty to look at. The beer itself is very plain and average, which goes right along the other Blue Point products.

Imperial pint pour @ the Ginger Man. Color is completely dull golden and has a foamy thick head, which is pillow-y and mellows slowly. Aroma is very non-bright herbal hops, there but not shining through. They are strong yet dull. Has lots of very thick white bread maltiness behind it. Taste is very grainy cereal malts with a strong hop kick, nothing too vibrant or interesting in terms of hops. A long bitterness follows, which actually becomes a bit too astringent in the dry hopping. It tries to be delicate yet aggressive all at the same time. Its got the parts just needs to meld better.

It’s nice to see an American brewer "double" something without making it an alcohol bomb - however, 6 and change does not an imperial lager make - more like a slightly stronger pils - you wouldn’t know from the flavor, though, as it is quite sweet, even for 6.5% - the sweetness, fuller body, and relatively creamy mouthfeel make this come across more like a maibock than anything else, but a tasty one - some buttery character through the middle, malty sweetness, and then some spicy hops and strong floral notes - bright fruity character, also more like a maibock - could be a bit cleaner in the finish, but it’s still pretty good.

Tap at the brewery tasting room - this is a solid brew, and a nice hybrid of english bitter and american pale ale - the hops are assertive and spicy, but not overpowering - they allow the malt and yeast room to generate flavors of buttered toast, light nutty sweetness, and moderate fruity esters through the middle - the hops merely bookend these flavors - medium-bodied, but quite sessionable - finishes crisp, but with some lingering bready maltiness - quite good.

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear amber color with a medium head. Good head retention and excellent lacing. Aroma is very malty with toast, hops and spicy rye notes. Taste is toasted malts, caramel and big fruit notes, particularly peach. Dry rye and and citrus hop finish.

On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 05/05/2009. Clear copper amber body with a small frothy off-white head. Sweet floral and spicy aroma. Dry floral hop flavor with a spicy rye background and a moderately bitter finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Sweet citrus and piney hop flavor with some caramel, somewhat cloying. Medium body with moderate carbonation. This would have been much better if the lovely hop aroma had followed into the flavor.
