Bottle at the 2017 Northern Ontario Beerfest. Jet black pour, with a large mocha colored head. Aroma is big on the roasted malt, with notes of soy, burnt coffee, and some light dark fruit. Mouth feel is thick, and silky, carb is soft, and pleasant.
The finish is medium bitter, with some strong sweet soy kick. Hints of dark fruit, with an enveloping strong coffee, and dark burnt cereal note. alcohol is well hidden, a few years on this would be interesting.

Bottle at the 2017 Northern Ontario Beerfest.
Hazy amber pour, with a medium white head.
Aroma is lightly spicy, some citrus, and grass. Light roast, soft cereals.
Nice mouth feel, regular carb.
Finish is medium bitter, with some soft citrus notes, with more soft spice also. All in all a light ipa, with some light rye added. Clean, and very drinkable, but a tad boring really.

Dark brown pour, medium beige head. A huge dose of caramel, and boozy malts. Heavy mouth feel, standard carb. Finish is very sweet, and boozy with hints of grassy hops, and a boatload of caramel, slightly fruit malts. This seems like its just a double shot of their scottish ale.

Bottle. Light brown/Amber pour, with a small off white head. Aroma is musty grains, butter, and caramel. I’m getting zero hops, and zero orange rind. Just a buttery, breads, caramel mess really. American pale ale?

Aroma grainy Malts, pale malts..... Light pils malt. The slightest hint of lemon and I’m assuming the extra green aroma is from the dandelion leaves. Regular mouthful and carb. Finish is lightly bitter with very green notes, no hops and slight lemon rind. Meh, nothing special.

Bottle at the Sudbury beerfest. The pour was a clear, dark brown, with a minimal beige head. Medium smoky aroma, a little bacon, and some touches of soy. The carb was soft, and the mouth feel a touch watery. The finish is very nice, some good smoke, but the roast is lacking for a porter. Some slight nuttiness, with more smoky bacon, and roasted wood. The smoke is there, but the porter aspects i found a bit lacking. Its more of a smoked nut brown, if you ask me. --- Beer merged from original tick of Blacksmith Smoked Porter on 28 Feb 2025 at 06:48 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6.5. Bottle purchased from the brewery. Took a tour of the facility with the brew master. It was quite impressive! First off glad to see the style on here has been changed. Beautiful clear brown pour with a great off white very fluffy head. The carbonation and color ard bang on for the style. Wonderful aroma of pale malts, caramel, roasted grains and uk hops. The flavor is full bodied and loaded with flavour. Lots of greet caramel malts and a great lingering bitterness that comes through in the finish. This is an outstanding session beer. After seeing the facility this is a high quality beer. Extremely well made with top notch ongredients. A great example of the style.UPDATE: if this beer is found fresh is more than hits the 4 out of 5 i gave it. If not fresh, its hit or miss. This beer does not seem to have much of a shelf life, about 1-2 months MAX. Much less if not kept cold like the majority of the LCBO’s i’ve seen.

This porter poured a deep blackish amber with a creamy, tan coloured head. Nice lacing. Scents include malty caramel, cardboard, light smoke and a little cocoa. First swig was bold and delicious with flavours of smoke, caramel, mild cocoa and coffee. Finish was burnt with flavours of smokey, heavy toasted malt lingering. --- Beer merged from original tick of Highlander Blacksmith Smoked Porter on 10 Jan 2014 at 17:18 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6.5.
