Description
The Alchemist is a family run brewery specializing in fresh, unfiltered IPA. John and Jen Kimmich originally opened The Alchemist as a 60 seat brew pub in the village of Waterbury in 2003. After eight years of success and growing popularity, they decided to open a small production brewery. Today The Alchemist currently operates two breweries in Vermont and distributes Heady Topper and Focal Banger throughout the state.

Can, best by May 2025, drunk 11/12/24. Dark, clear. Massive, tan head, good retention. Rich, syrupy molasses and moderate roast with a bit of the PNW hopping still there, though it's faded, somewhat. Lots of bitter licorice and dark chocolate. No alcohol or excess sugar. Malty, rich, succulent and sweet, but drying some over the course of the sip with treacle, molasses, rich chocolate and bitter roast. Lots of licorice too. I like that it's not a complete dark fruit mess, as I get tired of the all dark fruit dark beers. Nope, this is lots of chocolate and caramel with mildly fruity hops and moderate, bitter roast. Nice balance, no alcohol, not over-roasted and rich and comforting without going overboard on the sweetness. Incredible how nicely this beer develops in the can. I think about a year ago I would have given this a 3.3 or something like that, but now it's a wonderful, balanced, sumptuous stout.

Tasters Choice can shared by Mike, thanks! Inky black, opaque, with a quickly fleeting tan head. Rich roast and earth with hints of caramel and chocolate. light warming, vinous and bourbon. Nice sipper.

Tasters Choice thanks for sharing Mike. Lightly hazy light golden color with a decent bubbly white head that persists. Certainly is dank, but also has some sweet fruity notes. Lower abv reduces the body a bit, but this is a fantastic sessionable beer!

Notes from 2011 Gift from a buddy up north. Not inlaws, indigestion, or even nagging children could deter him from personally delivering the goods. Good man. Poured into a Rave Vos Tumbler. Solid inch of stiff, off-white head. Hazed, light orange/amber body. Smells fresh. Haven't had a fresh beer in a while. Soft citrus rind, muddled leaves, & a splash of orange juice. Aerosol. Not tropical, just green. Taste is a satisfying one two of citrus & really dry cracker-like malt. Leafy/herbal/rind bitterness is big, but not as big as the fruit. Green Peppers? Very dry middle on in. Bitter aspirin & grain finish. Carbonation is soft, but active; foamy. Unfiltered of course. Alcohol doesn't hide. Very solid & refreshing. Bonus points for being fresh.
